But while we're on the topic, why the F is spring break tied to Easter? Whose brilliant idea was that? It's just awful.

This year spring break was not tied to Easter. It was tied to the end of 3rd Quarter.

No, it was tired to Easter, the 3rd quarter just so happened to fall at the same time. Had Easter been a week later Spring break would have absolutely been a week later

In 2025 Easter is the reason spring break isn't until April 14th while the quarter ends March 28th

To be fair to FCPS, they align it like that because LCPS, PWCPS, APS, etc. all do it. They did try to move it at parent request and the teachers who live out-of-county flipped over the non-aligned spring breaks. FCPS understandably moved it to accommodate their employees. If you get all of northern Virginia to do it together it will happen.

oh I am well aware of that, and while, as a parent, I loved the year they didn't align with the other counties/didn't couple with Easter. I understand how from a logistical standpoint that year was terrible for teachers who live and work in different counties. I wish we could align with surrounding counties and pick a set week like the last week of March. I hate that it follows Easter, especially in years like 2025 where Easter is mid April.

Why does FCPS have to couple Spring Break with spring? Couldn't they do it some other time?

But why? And it actually precedes Easter.

Yes it does. Easter always occurs in the spring.

Ok "follows" was not the right term, but let's be honest you knew exactly what I was saying. Lets used coupled easter or precedes. Is that better? Yes it precedes Easter, but it is coupled with Easter in that it is always the week before easter Sunday.

Christian weighing in . . . I coudln't agree more! Who needs 9 days off for Easter anyway? Just pick a week and stick with it. Jesus would want the children to get an education

Um, no, it was tied to Easter and they built the quarters around that.

Isn't it more expensive to travel because schools have off? If it moved to a different time than that would be the most expensive. Supply and demand.

No, most states don't have spring break tied to Easter. FCPS is really dumb about that.

Oh my god, no. The other counties do it because FCPS does it. Are you the parent of a kindergartener? Have you not been around for the past 5 years?

My family in the Midwest ALWAYS get the first week of April off. Every year. It's predictable, it allows people to plan large vacations years in advance, and it's so much cheaper than tying it to Easter.

Then start subbing for those weeks in FCPS and the surrounding counties.

Um, pretty sure the post you're replying to was a joke. Can't believe so many people didn't get that

By the way, May 3rd isn’t a made up holiday. It’s Eastern Orthodox Good Friday. While that’s my religion and I hope that people don’t insult it, I don’t believe schools need the day off for it. Most churches offer an evening service to accommodate since our entire lives prior to recently, it’s never been a school holiday.
