The whole story is odd. First, you’re never supposed to ride in a trailer while it’s being towed. Never. Second, how does the door fly open like that? Even if it wasn’t locked, the door still latches. It wouldn’t just open. Third, how does a person fallout of the door? Was she standing next to the door when it opened? Was she trying to open it? Why was she moving around in a moving trailer? None of it makes sense.
When I first read the article, I thought someone must have pushed her out because that’s how little sense this makes. |
If you can’t figure out all of the idiotic things this family did leading up to this accident, you have no business renting an Airstream. |
It’s pretty hard to get experience with one unless…you can experience one for the first time. See how that works? |
Not a dumb question at all. With that family did was incredibly stupid and illegal. You’re never allowed to ride in a towed vehicle. |

This has a diagram of the trailer. Allegedly she was trying to secure and lock the door and thus was pulled out when it swung open. Her DD and boyfriend witnessed it. I can't imagine what they were all thinking riding back there. They were said to have stopped for ice cream, was the idea that it would be more comfortable to eat more spread out? Then stay parked.
https://nypost.com/2024/04/09/us-news/airstream-says-li-doctor-monika-woroniecka-should-not-have-been-in-back-of-rv/ There are no seat belts or anything, it is not designed for riding. The physics of it swinging out and moving truck were going to be greater than the strength of a middle aged woman or anyone. If they had all stayed well clear of the door... |

It said they recently bought the trailer, which is a smaller model and priced at $130K. It sounds like someone did not properly secure door and it flung open due to a strong wind. The woman got up and tried to close the door, but was tossed when the trailer swayed again in the wind.
Inexperienced people did a few tragically dumb things - rode in a moving trailer, didn't properly close and secure the door, then tried to close an open door while the trailer was moving. The right thing to do was to remain seated and call the husband driving the truck, telling him to stop immediately. More money than sense, unfortunately. Oh yeah - Airstreams are ridiculously overpriced. $130K for that model is such a rip-off. Buy used, folks. |
Honestly, I don’t really think it’s much of a loss to the medical community. This woman appears to have had incredibly bad judgement (and that’s the absolute kindest way to say it) and if she were my child’s doctor and I learned that she did things like riding in a trailer being towed, I’d find a new doctor immediately. Because this is a person who isn’t very smart, doesn’t pay attention to warnings, and has poor judgment. This is not a person I want dispensing medical treatment to my child. |
| You aren't supposed to be in the trailer while it's being driven. |
Trailers aren’t driven. |
| i have had an airstream sense early 90,s --- trust me the owners almost always know far more then the general public in every category -- and no one is going to tell them what they cant so --- if she had taken a few physics classes along with her physiology classes she might have had some idea that there are forces out there that are greater then we |

Doctors tend to be the most arrogant people on earth so it’s not surprising she didn’t heed the warning stickers on the inside door of every RV trailer made in the last 40+ years. |

I remember even forty yrs ago - it was illegal to ride inside a trailer/5th Wheel/Etc. while it was being towed.
The reason I know this is because growing up in the late 70’s/early 80’s my family owned a 5th wheel that we used to take camping every school vacation & I used to beg my parents if me + my friends could ride in the trailer. Imagine how fun I thought it would be to have all that space to ourselves w/o my parents! But my parents ALWAYS forbade it telling me it was illegal as well as extremely dangerous too. |
yeah, this |
