Tesla camera cut out and I lightly hit a car - my fault?

What? Of course you can't rely solely on a camera. You need to look behind you as well. How is that not obvious to you?

Camera, no camera; Tesla, no Tesla. You hit another car and said it's your fault. Pay cash if you don't want insurance to go up.
I don't think Tesla drivers are any worse than BMW drivers. If any, they should be more careful because if it is their fault, it's on camera.

I'm OP. Trying to learn. It was so light the other car wasn't impacted at all. I like the idea of the insurance handling it.

Relationship section b/c I'm trying to be a good ex. If it's my fault, I'll deal with insurance. If it's a Tesla issue, I'd try to work that out. I just don't want to inconvenience my ex.

When this happened to me I asked the other driver to get an estimate from a mechanic to fix his car. The estimate was reasonable so i wrote a check and did not go through insurance.

The contact Tesla about the recall notice and about getting your camera fixed for free. Any damage caused to your car from the accident, you pay. I would let ex know if he is the owner.

The bolded makes absolutely no sense. You're saying that you were in the process of backing out, the rear view camera which presumably you were looking at cut out, and you continued to back out? How was your instinct not to immediately break and/or LOOK in the rearview?

Seriously? This is the equivalent of McDonalds telling people that coffee is hot or putting a suffocation warning on a plastic bag.

Shockingly everyone used to drive without any cameras at all and we all had to use these things called our eyeballs.

Did you take a drivers test in this country OP? Pretty sure they teach you how to back up and in and out of spaces without a camera.
