Agree I’d put Puerto Rico on the list over Bermuda (but would probably do CR over the others) |
I haven't been to Hawaii, but would definitely choose Costa Rica over Bermuda. Bermuda was just "meh" for me. The beaches are just OK. |
I hate driving/riding and traveling long distances once we get to a vacation spot. What would be the best area in Costa Rica for my family to visit for a week, that would have a decent amount of fun activities and restaurants without a ton of lengthy drives involved? The less driving/riding around, the better. |
I've been to all 3 (although only Hawaii and CR with teens). I"d definitely recommend Hawaii or CR over Bermuda. I think your kids will find Bermuda boring. It's more of a weekend trip to me. If you go to CR, we really enjoyed Manuel Antonio, the Osa Peninsula, and Playa Flamingo. We did the Big Island in Hawaii and felt there was tons to do (of course just a much longer flight and time change). |
You might want to look into flying into Liberia instead of SJO |
Bermuda is beautiful and relaxing, but would be boring for the teens and boring for everyone after 3 days.
Both Costa Rica and Hawaii are amazing!!! So much to do. |
I have been to CR and Hawaii (Maui and Kaui). Teens would love either place as they both offer a lot of activities. Overall, I would probably pick Hawaii over CR.
Getting around- Hawaii is easier to get around if you prefer having your own car on vacation. Driving in CR is no joke, and if you want to snorkel Hawaii is better. Activities- Both have great places to go surfing. CR has more "extreme" activities like long ziplines, repelling down waterfalls, riding ATVs if kids are old enough. Weather- CR can be oppressively hot in some places. Hawaiian islands have more of a breeze. Wildlife- If you are into birds, monkeys, sloths, reptiles and other wildlife CR wins. Cost- honestly CR is almost as expensive as Hawaii. |
