Rent goes up because zoning and NIMBYs curtail new housing proposals and development. Materials are a global issue. Inflation is lower in the US than anywhere by Japan. The costs are supply and demand. Capitalism. Labor goes up because there are not enough workers to fill the jobs, so employers have to pay more to attract and retain. |
Makes sense. That’s what I would do based on Democratic policies. Robots don’t call in sick, don’t need a 401K, don’t have to pay half of SS or Medicare, don’t have to provide medical insurance, don’t need DEI, etc. |
Funny, I live in Orange County (Anaheim area) and housing is crazy. There is not enough. My friends moving here and trying to rent say they can’t find rentals and the ones they do find there are 5-6 bids. |
Well, they shouldn't. It's no different than Trump putting in absurd and illogical tax breaks for real estate developers in the tax legislation. Obviously using political office for self-serving outcomes. |
If everyone loses their job from AI who will pay all the taxes to support Democrats social programs. Better start learning some new skills. |
They're coming for all jobs, not just fast food workers. Employers don't want to pay your 401(k) either. |
The robots and AI are coming, with or without "democratic policies" The question is, how does the government respond to ensure there are places for people to work and earn money to pay for housing, food, healthcare and education? |
Are you a liberal who expects the govt to solve all your problems? Invest in yourself, increase your skills, so someone is willing to pay for your work. |
Yeah, that's the problem, isn't it? There's going to be mass unemployment across the political spectrum, Democrats and Republicans. |
If companies can't survive without exploiting workers at wages too low to live on then that tells me those companies didn't have good business models in the first place. |
Maybe if corporations could reduce the compensation of CEOs and shift that pay to the people who actually do the hard work, they wouldn’t have to raise prices. |
The "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" is going to be antiquated advice. But keep up the rhetoric while you can. |
I wonder who will survive in such an environment. My money is on Republicans. |
