Have you had a deck built?

As to lessons, make sure you are comfortable with the payment structure. Companies are very different with respect to how much you pay at which points of the process. If you pay too much up front, there is nothing financial incentive to get your job done. A bad reference or review isn’t a deterrent.

this is what worries me. contractors can really screw you over.

having a deck built right now. ~350 sq ft, $45K. using the more expensive trex line, with stairs. one thing I'm deciding on right now (probably way too late in the process) is what to do with the area underneath - dirt, gravel, or something paved/finished?

How much is a screened porch?

I’d love to know also. I’ve been thinking about one recently.

Kind of hilarious that a...(checks notes)...deck? costs as much as a major surgery

Rebuilding my 16x24 deck now by myself. The newer pressure treated lumber doesn’t last as long as the old stuff. Make sure there is no wood contact with the ground at all. Make sure the top of the wood is all taped to prevent moisture penetration. Use Trex style decking on top.

Yeah that's closer to a screen+roof price
