“How was your spring break?” How do you respond?

If you don't care, don't ask me. Done. Say 'hello' instead.

"It was ok"

I always say wonderful and relaxing. It's always true though so *shrugs*

“Too short! How about yours?” This covers it whether it was good (so you wish it was longer) or bad (so you wish you had more time to turn it around).

It's called being polite. Social lubrication.

Sme here unless it's somebody I'm close to. "It was good.. how was yours?" It's just filler.

Same, I also think most don’t care. I also don’t like to brag or post pics on social media. It’s no one’s business. We had fun as a family and that is all that matters. We will cherish our memories and treasure our pictures.

If you mean you stayed home, caught the kids up on routine medical care and deep cleaned the bathroom, I would say something like “nice to get a break and catch up on things.”

If someone died or something or would feel weird to say “good”.

True. FIL passed away two days before Christmas. If anyone asked how Christmas was I said "Awful. We had a death in the family ."

This. There are some very antisocial people posting here who don't understand the basics of polite conversation.

Oh man I have this on the other end, asked a coworker how her weekend was and it turns out her mom had died. I handled it awkwardly, which is my usual approach, but whatever. I asked and she's should give whatever answer feels right to her.

I would probably share something but not be a total negative Nancy.
