Rocky run MS feeds to multiple high schools including Centerville and Westfield in addition to Chantilly |
+1 agree |
OP here . i would like to know if there are any particular advantage of 1 over the other .On an another thread they mentioned RC to be AAP center specific, but I'm not sure of RR . |
If you are within the base boundaries of Carson, you could feed to Oakton, South Lakes, Westfield. If you are within the base boundaries of Rocky Run, you feed to Chantilly.
It gets more complicated with AAP assignments, as there are also Chantilly-zoned areas that attend Carson and also some Centreville and Westfield-zoned areas that attend Rocky Run. The overall enrollment at Rocky Run (889) is significantly lower than Carson (1391), especially now that Johnson MS has its own AAP center. Carson surfs on its reputation as the largest feeder to TJ, which is a function of having kids from so many areas in its AAP program, but Rocky Run seems less impersonal. |
There really is not a big difference. RC and RR are both AAP centers. MS AAP and MS Honors classes (which any kid can take) are fairly equivalent, taught by the same teaching teams. There may be small differences in world languages each school offers, and you can look that up. You can look up the school catalog (School Name Course Catalog) You should mostly focus your attention on which HS you want your child to go to. Chantilly and Oakton are both excellent high schools. Chantilly is over capacity, however, and that might make a difference. Each school likely has different strengths and weaknesses in their various sports teams (for instance, Oakton swim and dive team is excellent), which may make a difference. Each school probably has slightly different course offerings, which you can also look up. |
Middle school is only two years and those schools are basically identical. Focus on high school, neighborhood, house. |
They are two important years. |
No one is saying that they're not. We're saying that the two schools are too similar for anyone to choose where they live on the basis of whether their base is Rocky or Carson. There are no significant advantages or disadvantages to being zoned to one or the other. They are really quite similar. You should be more focused on where your child will go to high school, instead. |
The two school have little differences, while the HS's they feed into makes a huge difference. |
How do the zoning of high school works . This may be basic question. sorry I'm new to the US school system. The previous poster mentioned both RR and RC feeds into westfield and chantilly high then how would they decide ? |
IMO a home zoned to Carson MS is going to have a longggg drive to Oakton HS. Make sure you're ok with that. Personally we went with Rocky Run as it's also right near Chantilly HS, so we are near both. I can think of a lot of things my kids can be doing besides that extra time sitting on a bus every day. My kids are still in ES so can't speak to the schools personally but neighbors appear happy. |
It’s all based on your address. Where you live determines your high school. |
https://boundary.fcps.edu/boundary/ Also https://www.fcps.edu/facilities-planning-future/maps You have one address, and it only feeds to one elementary, one middle and one high school. That rarely change (unless there is a rezoning, which takes years). They will be in schools with kids going to other middles schools and high schools. That doesn't affect where your kids are going. |
