Selective High School Results on or AFTER March 29?

I'm OP, and I wrote this post partly because I'd heard of these things that selective schools do in choosing their pool that don't seem fully congruent with the cut-and-dried myschooldc lottery process.

Banneker definitely told our family we would be notified if we were accepted to Banneker. The student ambassador told us he got into Walls and Banneker, which I thought was not possible until the interview…

Maybe he got into his lower ranked choice (let’s say Walls) but then got off the waitlist later and was admitted to his higher ranked choice (Banneker). That is a way a student could get into both. And probably the only way.

DC's friend got into SWW first even though Banneker was ranked higher. They got a call in summer from the waitlist for Banneker and enrolled.

Student ambassador stated he got into Walls and Banneker. I believe the school may reach out to families to let them know.

Interesting! I heard no one dares to rank SWW #2!

Why wouldn’t someone “dare” to rank Walls second?

Our son put in Banneker first then SWW. Both very good, wanted one more than the other.

Yeah, that was a weird comment. Dare to consider that Walls isn't everyone's first choice for a variety of reasons. Also, schools don't know how you've ranked them. It's not like a competitive school is able to exclude qualified students who rated them #2 instead of #1.

My DD also listed Banneker 1st and walls second.

I know several people who ranked Banneker first. They each had a good feeling in attending the open house, talking to students, and talking with teachers.

We ranked Banneker first and Walls second based on my experience with both as a DCPS employee. My child would benefit more from Banneker's program, but I added Walls as a backup. Our neighborhood school isn't an option.

This evening my child stated they did not want to go to walls, but wanted to go to Banneker. Unfortunately, we listed walls 1 and it’s too late to turn back now. Any insights on getting into Banneker by placing it as number 2?

Well, you'll know soon enough. Hopefully in your case the child will be waitlisted at Walls and matched at Banneker, problem solved. That certainly happens for a lot of applicants I have heard of in the past with Walls listed #1 and Banneker #2. If rather the student gets into the school they stated was their first choice, but it's not truly their first choice...not sure you can really negotiate that at this point. They can apply out at 10th.

I think you can rerank post lottery and maybe email change of heart Q to Banneker.
