How reliable is payscale? Regardless of COL differences, I would never in a million years have guessed Brandeis CS would rank #11 in terms of $$$s after 10 years.
It is a head scratcher. |
Very different school environments. I think fit should be the priority in this analysis. |
| Brandies is a good school with decent name recognition. Decide based on fit. |
+1 Beware of how statistics might be manipulated. Brandeis has <100 students graduating as CS majors, so one big payout might skew results. Its CS faculty look credible (though many are computational linguistics rather than straight-up CS) but I’ve never heard CS and Brandeis in same sentence at DC’s math+CS-focused magnet. |
| I really think that for CS once you get past the very obvious schools I would just choose on other factors. My kid is going to a SLAC not particularly known for CS, planning to major in CS, but also really likes art and language. If she’s a decent coder, she’ll get a job. I’d like her to go to grad school first anyway. |
| Brandeis is cutting faculty positions to plug a budget shortfall. Some programs are on hiatus like doctorate in music. |
| It would be dumb to pass over UCLA |
| Not at that sticker price. |

USC if likes West coast
Northeastern if likes East coast |
| Brandeis is mid. Lots and Lots of other choices. I definitely would not pay full freight at that school. |
