| DC wants to study computer science and Brandeis graduates are listed as having an average starting salary of $100,000 and a mid-career salary of $193,700. They are toward the top of this list: https://www.payscale.com/college-salary-report/best-schools-by-majors/computer-science. Is it worth picking over schools like UCLA or UVA (accepted to both btw)? We are from Maryland. |
| Skip. Much better schools in Boston area. What about MIT? |
| For CS you are looking at the wrong schools, OP. Start with a Google search. |
Does your kid want to live on East Coast or West Coast? Brandeis salaries will be biased high because of East Coast grad distribution (where they live). I can't really assess how that would compare to the other schools. But you should be wary of using that as a huge decisionmaking criteria. Region is better since it ties to lifestyle vs. just pay. |
| The tech industry has changed a great deal in the last few years. Jobs are harder to come by and salaries have come down. |
💡Yeah, great idea. Just go to MIT instead!! |
|
Brandeis is known for business OP.
Northeastern is known for CS. BU is known for Communications. BC is known for Liberal Arts. MIT is MIT. |
| I would go to UVA for CS. |
*NOT GO TO UVA FOR CS. Correction. |
|
No Brandeis for CS is definitely not worth it!
Especially not over UCLA!!!! |
| What about Brandeis CS vs. VTech Business IT degree? Does the CS degree outweigh? |
| No. UCLA or UVA any day over Brandeis |
| maryland is better than all of the listed schools for CS. |
|
It’s not about which is the better school for CS. It’s about where DC will get through school.
If DC is outgoing, attractive and very goal-driven, or you pay in-state tuition for UCLA, UCLA. Otherwise, Brandeis. |
I agree that it is a fit decision for DC. Go there because DC wants to be part of a specific peer group and vibe, not because of the potential financial outcome. With a CS major there are excellent opportunities at all of these schools. |
