If you have Disney plus they just released a TV show for that series. 1 book = a season. So that might be why. Maybe you could watch together. |

Jen Calonita fairy tale reform school and other books. For your younger daughter search middle grade books.
For your teen matched by Ally Condie The selection by Keira Kass |

Yes! That is why actually! I’m just grateful she’s reading. |
I’m the pp who recommended the Cactus book and others. Elizabeth George Speare (Witch of Blackbird Pond) also wrote Calico Captive. At this age I really liked Anne of Green Gables. I read that to my 11 year old about a year ago and she enjoyed it but had no interest in continuing the series. Her teacher recommended The Egypt Game and I loved that when I was younger but haven’t gotten it from the library yet. Her teacher also recommended To Kill a Mockingbird but we read the first few pages together and she felt she’s not ready for it yet. I asked her and she said Cactus wasn’t hard but was funny. She said she really loved Hen and the Art of Maintenace and also (if there’s interest in nonfunctio) she really loved “An immense World”. Right now she’s reading Lily and Jake by Gerry Spenneli. She says it’s not challenging but is fun. She says the Wings of Fire series (which was getting easier / she finished prob a year ago) was her favorite of all time and a lot of her friends like Percy Jackson. |

Mysterious Benedict Society (series) for younger tweens
Fantasy The Girl Who Drank the Moon His Dark Materials series Coraline or Neil Gaiman in general Realistic Patima from Jason Reynolds' track series There are ton of YA series like the To all the Boys I've loved, Eleanor and Park, that are fun to read. |

The War that Saved My Life - dd loved this book and recommended it to many friends who almost all said they did not want to read historical fiction set during WWII. They prefer Percy Jackson, Wings of Fire, Lost City type books. But every single one came back and said they loved it. She got DH and I to read it, too, and we also liked it a lot. Gave us a lot to talk about.

During late elementary into middle school my DD liked:
Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine The Girl Who Drank the Moon by Kelly Barnhill The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate Bob by Wendy Mass and Rebecca Stead Lois Lowry books Books by Ellen Booraem: Small Persons with Wings The Unnameables Texting the Underworld A PP mentioned the Mighty Girl website and here’s the link with books screened for 13 and up (can filter by other age brackets, by genre, etc): https://www.amightygirl.com/books?age_range_filter=6 “A Mighty Girl's book section features over 4,000 girl-empowering books starring stellar Mighty Girl characters. Robin McKinley:
The Blue Sword The Hero and the Crown Cynthia Voight Homecoming (not like a high school dance) Darcy’s Song On Fortune’s Wheel (I think) |
I’d recommend Jason Reynolds entire track series, not just Patina since it’s focused on a girl. Ghost is the first book in the series (and Lu and Sunny are the others). My non-reader devoured them. |
If she likes them there's Heroes of Olympus series and then Trials of Apollo series Similar thing kids being the kids of God and goddesses going on adventures. Not related but same author and God's and goddesses are involved its written like a recording by brother and sister so might want to check out audiobook Kane chronicles not as long as the above series only 3 or 4 books but it's hilarious in the best appropriate way. |
She could try the Artemis Fowl books, about a rich criminal mastermind, he steals art and stuff but then gets mixed up with fairies, not Tinkerbell we're talking Sci fi ish with a military. |
