Some good news: Crime is down in DC

Seems like perhaps people going ballistic and putting pressure on the Council and Mayor is working.

Keep it up.

As a business owner in Columbia Heights, I've noticed things have calmed down a lot

Very good point. Crime involves a police report etc. they scrambled comms so we don’t even know.

I predict a massive uptick come nice weather

This is why homicide is the stat to keep an eye on. They'll no-paper property crimes and even muggings, but there's no way to weasel out of reporting murders.

So days after the supposed DC crime bill, people feel safer and now there is less crime.

The homicide number is down. Really.

Something has changed for the better - the pressure on Bowser and on the city made something change. That's good! We need to keep it up!

As a regular person, I've noticed the same. And it's great.

I've been noticing a lot more MPD presence everywhere.

It does seem like everyone got shamed into doing something.

Another NE resident and I've seen a noticeable decrease in crime. Lots of police presence (although there was already presence during the height of it last year). I live in an area that had many shootings and murders, and haven't heard anything in recent months.

Weather is already nicer. But some of the worst stuff in our neighborhood happened in cold months too so I'm optimistic things are really improving.

Link? And how are we doing on carjacking?

At the beginning of last year, we were still reporting crime. They often didn’t take the reports, but we were still trying. Now we don’t even bother. These numbers mean nothing.

Not really. They’re still 500+ officers short of required force strength. You are NOT seeing more cops, because there are NOT more cops to be seen.

This is exactly why stats are down. People aren’t reporting “small” crime now. So murders might be down for the moment (mostly due to colder weather), but people aren’t even bothering to report stuff like break ins, robbery or other stuff. Because they know nothing will come of it. Why bother?
