Weight gain during Ramadan

Its fasting not magic, you've to mind your diet and stay active, majority eats a lot of fried and sweet stuff and limit physical activity, weight gain is inevitable for them.

A lot of people don't pay attention to the philosophy or spirituality behind the idea, instead of using it to discipline themselves, they overeat at iftar and make no attempt to do good deeds. Its just a cultural ritual for them.

May all our fasts and good deeds be accepted. May all our duas be accepted. May this month bring us closer to our Creator. May we be granted forgiveness and mercy from our Lord. May He shower His blessings upon us and bestow on us peace.

Peace to all of my brothers and sisters.

The Islamic calendar is lunar and many people wait for the sighting of the new moon to verify the start of the new month. But calculations are timing the new month for Sunday night.

Its such an antiquated practice to wait for moon sighting, thankfully many forward thinking imams just go with scientific calculations.

However, its kind of sweet to do the activity of moon sighting for tradition/fun or in case doom and gloom or AI takes over, humans may have to rely on olden methods. To avoid confusion, lunar calendars should just follow science while we can.

If conservative imam is insisting on keeping people in limbo, make him do khutba without mic and speakers. It makes life so difficult for people who need to plan their calendars, try to barter their ramadan calls with others for Christmas and Easter.

You don't have to be muslim to benefit from Ramadan. Join in for health advantages as scientific studies suggest that intermittent fasting improves many aspects of human health. These include weight loss, lowered blood pressure, improved bone density, and appetite control. Some studies suggest that experiencing hunger for short bouts of time could slow down the natural aging process and possibly extend a person's lifespan.

Just drink lots of water during non fasting hours, have more protein in morning meal, do light workout, enjoy your complex carbs in evening meal. Everything in moderation. Instead of muslim prayer, do your own or just do meditation. Give charity or volunteer to help others. Go easy on yourself and others, let go of small stuff. Don't consume anything toxic like alcohol, tobacco, drugs, anger, gossip etc.

If you play your cards right, you can celebrate the end of the month, 10 pounds lighter and with less physical and mental toxicity. Don't feel guilt if you are doing it all perfectly, majority of muslims aren't either.

May we all get on the physical and mental health wagon we all wowed to get on first of January but fell off. Happy Ramadan and Happy Ramadan Lite to ones joining for non religious reasons.
but not drinking during the day promotes kidney stones

Fair point. However, "based on the available evidence, it is unlikely that fasting significantly increases the risk of renal stones. Physicians should counsel higher-risk patients on safe fasting practices." and if are an average healthy person, hydrate your body well, by drinking enough water between Iftar and Suhoor.

Scientifically ramadan fasting is supposed to help with anxiety and depression, not my personal experience and never did a formal study myself but from social observation, it seems to have a positive effect for majority. Here is a relevant study if anxiety is a reason for you to try fasting.

This is because some people especially those with pushy panicked moms Bring food for a entire
village and make everyone overeat for fear of them not eating enough /getting enough calories while fasting.

This defeats the whole purpose of avoiding gluttony and remembering those without but it’s somehow become am inside joke /Western tradition in particular . The dads if they have a day off are asleep during the day , the moms are spending all day preparing for 7pm and complaining that nobody’s helping .
