Multiple incidents at paint branch

Anonymous
Still no PB parents with information about what happened? OP, you started this post but provided NOTHING? What are we supposed to do here?

We aren't at paint branch but at another middle school. 2 weeks ago teachers found a gun in a students bag. Principle was kind enough to let parents know this happened, but couldn't assure parents that the gun carrying kid wouldn't be at school the next day. Principle explained they can only follow county guidelines for discipline.

Every single day at least one fight occurs in the middle school.... and those are just the ones our kid knows about (never been involved).

This week a middle schooler hit a substitute teacher.
There is no link to a news story about any of these incidents at our local middle school. ...also I haven't heard the parents really talking about it.

Maybe this is normal?
We arrived in this country a few months ago so don't want to rock the boat as we are trying to adjust to these behaviors... but I'm shocked, SHOCKED at these kids behavior.

A kid from Banneker ms up the road walked in with a knife. No injuries but the school was out in lockdown. We live in the area with kids that go to those schools and we hate it. They are terrifying and I have full respect for the teachers that have to deal with these troubled kids. Central office MUST visit these schools, unannounced, to see if what is happening. You guys on the west have no idea how bad things are on the east side. This is what happens when the county is divided by $$$.

I saw a photo of what I was told was a female PB security guard with her face COVERED in blood! It was terrifying. How is PB and MCPS keeping this under wraps? Are parents at PB afraid to speak out???

I live in the area, my kid is MS age but will likely go to PB. Haven’t heard anything about this in the community as of yet. OP is there a news/info link? There are definitely more violent issues at different schools within mcps though. PB is usually not like this as far as violent incidents.

Uh this is not true. PB has had a serious, repeat history of fights at the school as evidenced by this thread at the end of the school year last year: https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1111781.page

That’s why they tried to put Beidleman there for cultural matching. He may not have been great to the teachers but he connected with minority students very well. You have to understand the culture to lead the culture.

He'd have to stay at work during the day to connect with students.

As I've said before, the violent students need alternative schools, paid for by taxpayers. Right now there's one alternative school, and since it's too small, kids get sent back to their home school or endlessly transferred to other regular schools, once they've done their stint there. There is a pattern of violent repeat offenders creating chaos in multiple schools just because the system shuffles them from school to school.

This has to stop.

Well, there's also a state legislative problem in that according MD state law, kids really can't be permanently expelled like they used to be when we had Mark Twain. So the alternative schools are small because they're meant to be temporary holding grounds for troubled kids. Not permanent placements.

No you don't. The violent kids are not expelled. The alternative schools, like the programs for special needs or gifted kids, are just placing them in the right environment for them. It's all part of MCPS or paid for by MCPS. There is precedent for this, PP.

Excuse me? BCC kids carjacked an Uber driver AT GUNPOINT. This was the highlight of our fall season, my dear PP.
There have been guns and knifes found at wealthy high schools. Walter Johnson had a knife fight a few years ago next to the food shops right outside campus.

Please keep up with the news instead of perpetuating your "$$$" prejudices.

We need to stick together as a team so we can push violent offenders out of mainstream schools!!!

But they aren’t permanent placements, hence why kids can and do return to their home school or get sent to another school after a period of time.
