The Arlington Gazette News is even worse, and there are no other options for local news except the Washington Post Metro Section, which is now half its former size. At least there’s still the channel 9 eyewitness news at 11.

Maybe there’s been APE membership turnover? It has in fact been a couple years. It could be a whole new group, and a lot of younger parents are brand new to APS. They probably know nothing of APE’s past.

Same leaders.

Nope. Most of the people in APE's leadership have been there since their inception during the pandemic. It's the same names. How would you know if anyone joined anyway? Do they even have membership outside of their Facebook page? Also, I've signed up for their newsletter. I don't know why because I don't read it. I wonder if they consider me a "member."

I am sure they do, either that or the Facebook group.

It's a 5-person operation of conservative lobbyist who know how to play the game. Just look at their X account. Most of their commenters are RWNJ's. Lots of anti-immigrant stuff. When they say they have 1000 followers, they're talking about a lot of non-Arlington RWNJs who followed them during the pandemic. They do not speak for Arlington parents and never have. This "forum" is another of their tricks. Hold an early candidate forum, get a local journalist to moderate, and look legitimate. Don't fall for it. They're desperate to get new followers and count you as a member. Just don't.

+1

They are desperately trying to legitimize and embed themselves in the community.

This? This is going to make you stop reading ArlNow?

DP. It served its purpose before becoming a right-wing mouthpiece.

Here's a candidate forum that sounds less problematic:https://www.gazetteleader.com/arlington/news/arlington-civic-federation-sets-date-of-spring-candidate-forum-8397198

Links to right-wing mouthpiece pieces please. Or are all the traffic reports, restaurant openings and closings and crime reports right wing?

You all are deranged. Here’s the x profile. You don’t need to follow it to keep track of what they’re talking about. And it’s not RWNN propaganda.

I plan to watch the forum just like I’ll watch all the forums.

Go check out the Twitter accounts of the key APE players. Very telling.

Everyone else is tired of this convo. Follow them or don’t follow them. People in Arlington are pretty smart and most aren’t on DCUM anyway.

As long as they are active in our community, people will talk about them. And hold them accountable for their words and actions.

I dunno, they went from a supposedly fringe group to having meetings with Duran, getting a member on the SB and now they’re hosting a candidate forum with ARLNow. If that’s your idea of holding them accountable, by all means, keep it up.

They have been desperately trying to legitimize and embed themselves in the community. And hoping that people forget how truly horrible they were to people in our own community. Not to mention how off-base their analysis and opinions were. I guess that's not too surprising given their right/conservative ties.
