Dickinson > F&M > Gettysburg

Not to be overly picky, but I think this is the line up for these schools. Gettysburg is just a slight notch below the other two.

Curious why you and the PP have F&M ranked below either of these schools. Out of the three, it is the most selective and has the highest graduation rate, freshman retention rate and test score midranges. What am I missing that makes Dickinson better? That it's mentioned more in this forum (usually in discussions about safety schools)?

Agreed that F&M is the top of those three.

They absolutely give merit - DC just accepted with $30k/year of merit.

Whats so special, and what didI miss about this college?

Until you brought the school up, absolutely NO ONE has even mentioned F&M in several months.

Congratulations to your son! That is great to hear about the size of his merit award. They had pulled back from doing merit for awhile but I heard they were re-instating it. My father-in-law is a proud Dip and we had fun attending one of his reunions. My son would have applied if they had better merit several years because we all loved the school and the town.

Gettysburg is a nice school.

I'd pick F&M over Dickinson.

F&M is more challenging/serious academically. I think maybe the town around Dickinson is better than F & M.

Gettysburg frats the hardest, Dickinson wokes the hardest, and F&M studies the hardest.

This was new last year. I was sorry I hadn't heard about that or it likely would have made DD's list. She applied to a few PA LACs that give merit.

We looked at all 3 and thought FM was underrated. It seems to be considered a notch below NESCACs in this area but per college scorecard FM alums tend to make more than most of the NESCAC alums. This was 2 years ago but thought merit was good. Our kid picked a different school but FM was a close second.

Yep. My DC was also accepted with $30k in merit. The days of them giving no merit are over.

Selectivity doesn’t mean much. It’s not hard to get a lot of applications by spamming unqualified students with mail and email. Reject them and BOOM. You’re suddenly “selective.”

F&M doesn’t do this.

I am one of the PP whose DC was offered $30K. I know they discontinued it for a few years, but sounds like they need to better publicize that they offer it again. Enjoyed the tour and good distance from DC and lots to offer, although DC is waiting to hear from other schools.
