Help plan 2025 ski trip

Can you get the Ikon pass instead and drive to Tremblant? The long drive would be worth a full week of skiing rather than terrible east coast conditions, and there’s lots to do besides skiing too. Almost the plane tickets to Montreal are really not super expensive so you could consider flying.

You’re going to drive 12 hours each way rather than fly on Frontier to Denver and just go to Winter Park or something?

Driving isn’t free, you might as well calculate the cost at the IRS rate per mile + tolls + time/time off.

And why does it need to be on epic if you’re not going out west?

We’ve been to Stowe the past few Christmas breaks and have been continually disappointed - most trails won’t be open, limited lifts will be open and it will be ice unless you get really really lucky.

We went for the first time this Christmas. Not great but nothing on the east coast was. Killington and Stratton didn’t look much better. But OP is talking about January, and usually by January things are looking up.

In the plus side Stowe wasn’t icy because it was warm and rainy.

I would do Okemo if budget is a concern. You might find ski-in/out condo at decent price, it's very nice family-friendly resort
I do like Stowe, great village with ice-skating ring, cute town of Stowe nearby, but ski-in/out options there were limited/expensive

Lots of DC metro area families go to the resorts in PA on the weekends. Epic has bought all the half-decent PA resorts. It’s basically a monopoly.

Vermont and Maine have better skiing than Tremblant.

only if there’s actually snow and not just ice. At least you know there’s snow up in tremblant.

Get a southwest credit card now. In a year all your flights to Denver will be free plus you can schlep your gear.

Or do Stowe.

I'd love to hear more about Mont Sainte-Anne in QC for spring break (early April). Would you go to Denver over QC or are they about equal in terms of skiing? Lessins, lodging, etc. Seem to be much cheaper in Mont Sainte-Anne.

I was just going to suggest this. You could also fly to SLC (but there are usually more/cheaper flights to Denver)

OP here. I wish! But five plane tickets and a car rental will add at least $1000 to the trip, and that’s out of the budget. Thanks for all the suggestions so far!

How far are you willing to drive for a week? For me, that's like 7 hours max and anything in VT may take more like 9 or 10.

Really? I don't have any awards cards and maybe should start. But, how much do you need to put on your card for this to happen? (We pay for all kids sports, camps, etc. from accounts directly .. guess we can charge instead?)

Not OP but my max is appx 9 hours for a week trip so I would drive to VT. But I am thinking of going to VT next year for a Wed to a Sun and I think we will have to fly.

Tremblant gets just as icy as Vermont, if not more so.
