Help plan 2025 ski trip

Anonymous
Next January, we want to have a weeklong ski trip. Requirements:

1. Driving distance from MoCo
2. Epic pass
3. Will be open, 100% sure, by January 1, at least greens and blues (it’s fine if conditions suck)
4. Won’t be super crowded on nonholiday weekends in early January
5. Reasonable lodging with full kitchen

Thanks for all suggestions!

You could consider Okemo.

The only place worth going for a week in driving distance is VT. But no guarantees of being fully open anywhere

Stowe is your best bet on Epic. There aren’t that many east coast Epic resorts worth a week.

Just fly to Denver and drive. Much better skiing and lodging prices are similar.

OP here. I wish! But five plane tickets and a car rental will add at least $1000 to the trip, and that’s out of the budget. Thanks for all the suggestions so far!

5 plane tickets and a car rental will add closer to $3000, maybe more.

Vermont or Maine is the answer. Stowe for epic. For Icon, Sugarbush or Killington in Vermont, or Sunday River or Sugarloaf in Maine. Or get an Indy Pass and hit up some of the independent resorts like Jay Peak.

Mt Snow may be a bit closer than Okemo and has tons of wide blue trails.

Or instead of Epic you could do the Indy Pass, which is cheaper. I think those mountains tend to be less crowded.

I would avoid southern Vermont for early season. Central and Northern Vermont get way more snow, and Killington has better snowmaking than anyone else in the US (and will be open by Thanksgiving).

Stowe is definitely the answer.

Stowe if you want a guarantee of somewhat decent snow. No one can predict the weather and NE is the region of the US with the most severe rise in temps due to climate change.

Epic also has a partner deal with Resorts of the Canadian Rockies, where you get 7 days access to their resorts. You could go to MONT-SAINTE-ANNE, which is 30 minutes from Quebec City. It will be cold, but a better chance of snow that early in the season.

I'd bet on Stowe having snow more than anything in Quebec. The region where Stowe sits historically gets some of the most snow in the entire North East.
