| OP, we too will not qualify for any financial aid, but the FAFSA is a requirement for many schools to be considered for any type of scholarship. Just because my kid's college is funded, doesn't mean I'm going to leave money on the table. I don't understand why you wouldn't fill it out other than to act smug. |
This isn’t true. Most schools don’t require the FAFSA for merit aid. A few do. If you are applying for separate scholarships those vary and they say if financial need is part of the application (in which case if you are doing well you won’t qualify for those). |
Is admitting that your parents are helping you to pay for your kids’ college really bragging? |
|
We had to fill out the FAFSA even though we are rich because, as a DC resident, my kid is entitled to a $10k per year grant for attending a state school.
No reason to leave that $40k on the table even if the forms are a pain. |
| Sorry, but you sound obnoxious, like you're just dying to tell someone you're so rich you didn't have to fill out the FAFSA. By the way, I'm in your boat - with our seven figure HHI, we're never gonna qualify for aid. But I realize we're in a different financial situation than the vast majority of people, so when people ask me about the FAFSA, I just nod along and murmur in agreement. You CAN still fill out the FAFSA, you know. You don't have to accept loans and scholarships. |
| We don’t qualify for financial aid either and don’t require it, but listen to a friend complain about something that is not my fault really is fine. You don’t have to answer back. |
| Having college tuition in the bank and ready to go isn’t the brag you seem to think it is among the DC professional set. My children are 3 and 5 and 4 years of college each are already sitting in investment accounts. Most of the people you think are poors, just did some paperwork. I bet more than one of them have more money than you. |
Should she flog herself and proclaim Mea Maxima Culpa! for saving for years? |
Are you suggesting she do this in solidarity? |
| Comes across as a humble brag but the post is anonymous so who cares. |
Of course not! Everyone knows that spouting off Latin phrases is pretentious. |
Any so-called scholarship that requires filling out the FAFSA isn’t an actual scholarship. It is just another form of financial aid that rank orders awards based on merit. |
What are you talking about? Only financially incapable and idiot parents fill out the FAFSA. Intelligent UMC+ parents realize the FAFSA is a major scam that dupes unsuspecting parents into divulging obscene amounts of valuable personal information that is subsequently sold to countless bottom feeder organizations and advertisers. |
Hot take! You’re so much smarter and wealthier than everyone else! |
We don't qualify for aid but still have to fill out the FAFSA...Whether someone saved or not is irrelevant, and that response would be quite rude! |
