I always thought Penn state would be my kid’s safety. A few months ago, someone posted that Penn state’s undergrad business acceptance rate was 4%! My kid’s dream school is Wharton.

Stop…it’s a little over 20%…its easily searchable.

thanks for the correction -the chance is now close to 20% if you apply to both Penn State and Wharton, not bad

Penn State Smeal university park or University of Pittsburgh?
DS wants to study finance and make a lot of money in their career.

Penn State Smeal is 5% acceptance rate, which is harder to get in than Wharton (9%). But I would apply to both to increase the change to 14%.

Please, please, let someone else in your family handle all your finances.

Awesome math! Apply to all top 20 schools so that you have 100% chance for an admit.

I don't know much about Pitt. My kid graduated from Smeal in '22 (finance major) and didn't find it overly difficult to get his job on Wall Street. It's considered a semi-target school.

The Nittany Lion Fund in particular is successful at landing grads in investment banking and other high finance positions on Wall St. BoA, JPMC, MS, GS, and lots of smaller firms recruit from PSU. Business frats like AKPsi and Delta Sigma Pi are also good routes to go. Smeal may not be Wharton, but it's really good and will provide plenty of opportunities for those willing to work hard. Also, the alumni network is fantastic.

The MBA acceptance rate is 20% but I don't see the UG Smeal acceptance rate.
