Recommend casual dishes to buy - starting from scratch

I don't know how much you want to spend - but if it'
s some $, we have Marimekko plates we love. Got them for a wedding present almost 15 years ago, still love using them every day.

Crate & Barrel Aspen or Pottery Barn Emma are two that will never be discontinued.

All the stuff I have bought from crate and barrel looks good and then cracks into a million pieces. Their glasses are the worst.

+1 for fiestaware. We sometimes warm our dishes in the oven and they are ok for this.

I would just recommend you buy inexpensive ones. The expensive ones are heavy; I learned the hard way that you don't want that.

I have Williams-Sonoma Essential White (looks like it's now called "Open Kitchen") and it holds up well...have only lost one cereal bowl and one salad plate over the years, and was able to get replacements via Replacements Ltd.

I prefer pottery - heath ceramics, east fork pottery, material things (local to dc) etc. but unfortunately spendy compared to Ikea and Correlle.

I agree with estate sales or Etsy, if you want something fancier for a cheap price. China is cheap these days — I buy it and use it for everyday/put it in the dishwasher, etc.

If you want new plain white, Crate & Barrel is good because they sell open stock and you can buy replacements easily.

Villeroy and Boch has wonderful dinnerwear. Some patters come in sets. You can but them at Bloomingdale’s or Macy’s.

Another +1 for Fiestaware! Ours is 18 years old & still going strong. It’s easy to find more pieces to add later. Very durable. I have even been thinking about driving to their factory sale in WVa

another vote for fiestaware. I’ve had mine for 10 years and the colors still make me happy. Nothing has ever broken. I always get compliments from guests. They still look great!

Huh? What is your source for this?

We’ve had our Denby set for 15 years and it still looks beautiful. We have Imperial Blue, but they have other lovely patterns.

I got some incredible dishes at Goodwill. They were just put out and I got lucky.
