ED I Boston was apparently 43%. Add N.U.in self-paying closer to 60%.
ED I UW 3.8, no AP/IB TO history major full pay male got N.U.in "acceptance" which is non-binding. Pretty good ECs. Nice essay, but IMO not spectacular. Applied ED I but assumed deferral. N.U.in kind of feels like a consolation prize for those lucky enough to afford it. I suspect the decision was driven by AI financial criteria more than my specific child. He'll be happy if he gets his top location choice. But that's not guaranteed. You have to pay at least $1,200 of $3,700 nonrefundable deposit in order to pick a location. I did. But they haven't even confirmed the available locations yet. Supposedly early deposit puts you higher on the housing lottery list upon return. I'm not complaining. It's just not like other schools and kind of feels elitist and overly entitled. DC has offers from less "prestigious" schools that actually read his application and have done a lot of targeted follow up. NEU is a great school. I'm just not sure how great it will be for my kid. Good luck all |
| NEU Boston in RD is going to be a lottery pick. Looks they filled about half the slots for Boston from ED. I know it is easy to spout off about the school, but in the end, NEU has about 95,000 applications from which they need to fill maybe 1,500 seats. They are going to have a very very strong freshmen class. |
| Does NEU publish the admission rate of those submitting scores versus those who are TO? |
NUIn seems great for history major. I suggest throw in a practical minor such as Business, and grab at least one coop. Financial is mostly likely a criteria together with many others. AI or not, Northeastern is great in picking the right students, thus producing stellar retention rate, and the satisfaction rate for NUIn students is also very high. It'll be great for your kid. Congrats! |
I would be interested in this too, but I don't think any college publishes this number. |
Yes, I understand ED1/2 and NEU. But a 3.65 UW is simply not in line with NEU gpa. So I would be shocked for someone to get into even NUIn/NUGlobal Scholars (or whatever it's currently called). 95K+ applicants overall, most accepted have a 3.8/3.9+ UW gpa. And even then, thousands with similar resumes are rejected. So they have plenty of 3.85UW Gpa to reject why would they take a 3.6 GPA |
| My child got in EA. Not sure where the final decision will end up, but Northeastern is definitely in the running. |
Financial is definately a major factor in getting NUIn/NUGlobal Scholars. Considering you cannot use federal financial aid while not on the Boston campus, you will need to be full pay. NULondon/GS was $85K 2 years ago, and that was just for the full year but WITHOUT meals. So let's say $95K all in. nobody can afford that except full pay candidates. |
| How many NU.in freshmen are there? I know Boston is a lotto pick with about 2500. How many do the study abroad first semester? |
There are about 800-1000 NU.in freshmen, with about 300 admitted early decision. As others have said, in general these are wealthy students because of limited government aid offered. |
| According to collegekickstart, 3,000 applied EDII, and only 600 were admitted |
Exciting! Congratulations OP and DC! |
| That means roughly half the Boston seats are taken in early decision. Incredible that they have increased their early decision applicant pool from 1,000 to 6,500 in only 5 years. |
| Supposedly 18% of early decision applicants chose a NU.in or Oakland as a first choice, not Boston. |
๐๐ Boston? Thatโs where my kid was admitted. Have you see the campus yet? Other possible schools for your child? |
