MTHFR gene and mental illness

Meds are not 100 percent preventative. Added stress, pandemic isolation, new jobs, and other environmental variables can play a role. Meds alone are not a guarantee.

I have bipolar disorder and am also working on a book about treatment for mental illness and I have no idea what you are talking about. Sounds very scammy -- as many treatments involving "supplements are -- but I'm ready to read what you have to write about it.

Interesting. Would you mind sharing what treatments your book is focusing on, any new treatments of interest or promising avenues?

This is false. Studies have shown an association between MTHFR and vitamin B12 deficiency.

and folate/folic acid

Deplin (L-methylfolate) is the supplement recommended.

You do realize what MTHFR does to the body?

Not PP, but I "realize what MTHFR does to the body" and I'm not sure how "what MTHFR does to the body" validates the use of supplements to treat serious mental illness.

It could certainly treat the genetic disorder. And perhaps that disorder was influencing mental illness.

What doctor do you see if you have MTHFR gene? My daughter has this but the pediatrician seems unconcerned. We found out with testing done by a psychologist who we have now determined is a quack.

And perhaps vitamin deficiencies are a trigger.

It can cause miscarriages. Might be worth monitoring her vitamin levels and use supplements as needed.

There is a new clinic focused on this area at McLean at Harvard, it is an exciting time and I hope that it may offer some help for your relative, there are several recent and ongoing studies on the exact focus you raised.

Keto can also help with certain types of epilepsy.
