Virtual Academy should not be using money in the budget. If you don't want your kids in school pay for home schooling yourself. Such an obvious solution. |
That is the dumbest thing ever said on this thread. |
And, how is it harmful? Clearly it's working for a lot of students and families. |
One could say the same thing about in person. The in-person schools are getting funding for the MVA students so the simple solution is to pull that funding and give it to the MVA. They shouldn't be getting money for kids not in the schools. |
Yes, it is. |
I want them to reimburse families for the crap they fed our kids with this program and that journal they handed out to students. |
Didn't you see the performance numbers? Clearly it isn't working. |
I’m curious as to how much each program costs and what would need to be spent to replace what they offer, especially VA and innovative schools. Seems like both provide services that will need to continue in some capacity.
- online classes for students who don’t have the course in their assigned school (Math ex from PP), students with attendance issues that are able to attend VA- the tracking, letters and meetings to follow-up will add to someone’s paperwork. For year round schools- would we have to provide summer school anyway, have students in these schools shown an improvement and less summer learning loss? If so, how will the system make up for it? I’ll have to check the proposed budget again and watch the hearing tomorrow- I hope they gather information and get rid of things that won’t increase other needs. |
Based on those numbers, it’s not working. Who is the population still using virtual Academy? Sick kids, troubled kids, who? |
VA must go, we need the teachers back in buildings not with virtual classes with 7 or 8 kids, there's a shortage |
That's self-fulfilling. Lock kids at home with their mothers and they will certainly become sick and troubled. |
The "replacement" for virtual school is... school. Do you really think kids that skip school actually participate in virtual school? |
How is the Virtual Academy actively harmful? I would think it would be tremendously valuable for students who are homebound for extended periods. If a child’s medical condition keeps them from attending school for a while, we shouldn’t expect the family to have to homeschool on top of everything else. It seems like it provides useful differention to some students as PPs have described. If it is somehow harmful, can the content be modified while maintaining the flexibility the format offers? |
All three need to go |
