You mean because our country has a Madame Vice Prez?! |
| No, I don’t mean that |
| I don't think he's entirely wrong. Yes, it's hyperbole. But my kid is 21 this year and graduated in the high school class of '21, which was so bizarre for admissions. College seniors, many of whom are 22, graduated in 2020, when tons got off waitlists as covid disrupted people's college plans. The high school classes of 2020 and 2021 had hugely different outcomes, and the class of 2021 results are more similar to what people are encountering today. |
| I do believe you can Google what COVID taught Universities about admissions and find your answer |
| you can look at those Bowdoin numbers and see it's nothing like 4-5 years ago |
| He's spot on. College admissions have changed dramatically since COVID with test optional. Old standby safeties are now targets. State schools are reaches. |
Translation: Get lost kid; I'm too old to know what's going on. |
| I think what they're trying to tell you is that any information you came in with was wrong and to understand how quickly the landscape changes. |
| I'm over 21. So, high GPA and SAT score plus pointy ECs and essays are useless? What is needed now? |
a sob story about adversity? |
Nope, that advice is 10 years old. |
So, what is the advice? Or, does no one know because we're all over 21? |
|
So listen to a kid whose only experience is having applied to some colleges? So those college sophomores offering admissions coaching are better than adults? Come on.
I think a counselor who has seen hundreds of applications to many different kinds of schools would be a little more helpful. |
+1 But also recognize that things are changing so quickly that even experienced college counselors are getting surprised. |
| You guys are so obtuse. |
