Other Catholic HSs are closed tomorrow according to my kid. It’s nice.

Prep is closed today as well for the same reason. Looks like a Catholic School thing?

And some public schools in the area already had the day off as a professional development day.

Yes. He gave them the day off. Gonzaga is off too.

Stone Ridge is off, but we knew about it. What a nice thing!

OP never said anything related to concerns about her kid staying home alone, just that she was surprised by the very last-minute announcement. Maybe she’s new to the school. I would never have anticipated that either. Y’all are the ones assuming she’s upset about needing to be home with her kid or something.

All private schools have heads day or Presidents’ Day off. It is a surprise once a year. A lot of boy’s schools pick the day after the Super Bowl. It is part of the fun to get the announcement last minute, OP.

In the Arlington Diocese, the Bishop gives each principal of the schools a day they can select off. It is called the Bishop's day. For the last 5-6 years, our principal has used that to close the school the day after the Super Bowl. I think a bunch of the Arlington diocese schools do this.

Our private school doesn't have this....

But given it's high school - I like this idea as a nice surprise. Before others started to reply to OP I wondered if it was a Senior prank!

No they don’t. Neither our k-8 nor our current HS did/do this.
