Protein shakes beginner

Thanks all! All those powders you guys mentioned, are they just ground up natural ingredients? Like ground up peas (?). Or is the protein extracted from whey and peas in a lab and then processed in another lab to be palatable and shelf stable? Like someone said above, grinding beef into a burger is not a problem but I don’t want stuff that was made by scientists in a lab.

I am 50, menopausal, trying desperately to lift heavier weights but I can’t seem to build any muscle despite doing all the right things at the gym.

Ugh, I'm with you sister. (Not PP).

What have you been doing about it? Do you have any tips?

You need protein AND glucose post workout for muscle repair/building.

Yes, it’s ground up peas where they isolate the protein. Whey protein is a byproduct of, I believe, cheese production. They’re natural ingredients that have been separated during a process.

Same. I get them at Sam's club.

I like to make my own shakes with two scoops of vanilla protein powder, blend with oikos yogurt(0 sugar, 15 gram protein), also add kale, apple, protein and chia seeds. I barely taste the protein powder.

+1 for Fairlife Vanilla - I buy in bulk on Amazon. I keep both 26 and 42g varieties in stock, and use to supplement as needed (not daily, but nice to have on the go).

So, a woman has to have a higher level of testosterones to build more muscles? How does one do that? Steroids?

DH buys leanfit protein (vanilla) from costco. It's pretty good! We make shakes with 1cup of frozen fruit, 1 cup water, 1 scoop in the blender. Yum!

I like the Vega protein with greens in chocolate flavor, it’s pea protein. I use 1.5 schoops to get a total of 30g protein and blend with half a banana and a small spoon of peanut butter with unsweetened almond milk and ice. It’s delicious, like a chocolate milk shake. It’s filling enough to me to be a meal replacement.

43M, I do Crossfit, this stuff is great: https://www.drivennutrition.net/products/2lb-vegan-protein

Got the vegan options since my wife's stomach is sensitive to dairy (whey). Great taste, mild chocolate flavor, I just add water.

I do two scoops after a workout for 50g protein.

I like Kos protein powder. I get the unflavored powder and make a smoothie with fruit and almond milk.
