Does Cascade suck or is it our dishwasher?

Cascade is fine. I prefer the powder to the liquid and the pods.

You probably have build up in the two spray arms that spin. Take them outside and get some high pressure hose water going through them. Prepare to be grossed out. There might be stringy layers of white and green gunk that you couldn't see.

Same with the filter at the bottom.

It might be the hardness of your water. Or you're using too much Cascade and getting soap buildup.

Or the "high loop" that helps the dishwasher drain has fallen and water is partially flowing back into the machine and creating buildup.

Try the Finish dishwasher cleaner (in the blue bottle).

This. I had no idea that I'm supposed to take apart and clean my dishwasher quite frequently (monthly if you use it a lot), and was horrified by what I found when I did. There was a lot of gunk, which also included a lot of undissolved detergent, and bits of plasticky stuff from partially dissolved pods. Wear gloves.

Dishwashers need to be cleaned. Read the manual for how to do it with your manual. If you don’t have the manual you can find it on the internet.

Is there anything more powerful than Cascade that you like? Maybe we need more foaming/suds? Or is it our washer?

Are you filling both the main and pre-wash cups? Cascade still makes the old-school powder with phosphates, but they can't label it was dishwasher soap. They call it fryer boil out and sell it in orange boxes that look a lot like the green boxes of "regular" Cascade powdered dishwasher soap.

OH MY GOD

This has to be the reason. We are a newish homeowners and never knew you needed to do this. The arms were GROSS. Literally hair like gunk plugs coming out of every hole in both arms!!! I even found one of those stickers on apples inside of one of the holes! NASTY!

This is why we use DCUM.

Some of the pods come without the plasticky stuff. Use those.

NP. We have a fairly new Bosch that started out okay but now it's leaving sediment in a lot of glasses.

Only certain tabs work well with the bosch... the more expensive ones without a lot of powder.

Never had to do this with our Miele using the Miele dishwasher tabs and rinse aid. Going strong 8+ years.

I think it's the pods. We had to stop using them and go back to regular liquid dishwasher soap and after running the dishwasher on the longest setting a few times, it's as good as new. Think the pods were running up the works inside the washer.

This. And the arms. And I add Lemi-shine to help with the hard water around DC.
