| No, just upper school. Our primary actually has no men other than the gym teacher. |
| Beauvoir has a spectacular new AA male teacher who has been such a great addition to the school. My DD loves him! |
| I'm not sure you should chase this. There's a lot of turnover among teachers -- and a lot of them leaving the profession. A lot of talented young teachers become administrators. You'd hate to get to a school that you thought had a diverse staff, then find out that the Black teachers left or got reshuffled. It's kind of out of your control. |
| a little longer-term for you, Burke has several male AA teachers who have been there for a while, including the lead 6th grade teacher. |
| I would not switch schools (assuming you otherwise like current school) for the off chance that one year your child gets a black male teacher. So lets say you move to a school that has that for you in 3rd grade- that is one year, and you have just made a major change for that year. And who is to say he is even a better teacher than the teacher at your current school? I understand you wanting your child to have that role model, but the truth is there are not many black male elementary teachers in general anywhere. A black female teacher is much more likely. So you are making a major move for possibly only a year of your child's life, and that assumes 1) your child gets assigned to that teacher, and 2) that teacher hasn't left or changed positions by the time your child is ready to be in his class. |
I would, however, choose a school that has a history of hiring excellent black male role models and will continue to do so, such as Gilman. Several black male teachers and administrators are also alumni of the same institution |

And an AA male 9th grade Dean that also teaches the entire 7th grade. Both of Burke’s PE teachers are AA males. |
