Blow out question/hair in general question

Instead I go straight from the gym, work for 50min while someone else does my hair, and get ~5 days out of it looking good (2 or 3 down then pulled back into a nice looking pony). I probably average 5 times a month

Looking at the dc dry bar subscription, it looks like it’d work out to roughly that if you get the 2x a month and budget in your head for 3 additional ones at the $14 off price. I get that full subscriptions are nice bc you don’t think about the incremental cost of each one when you decide to go again

Do you exercise in between blowouts? How do you maintain it? I sweat so much when I exercise that I cannot maintain it for multiple days.

I do - and pretty intensely. Combo of dry shampoo, blow drying the roots, and whatever products the use that keep it from frizzing. When I blow out at home, it definitely doesn’t last as long. It doesn’t look perfect but still plenty presentable for work

Also I ask them to go light on products overall, my hair is blond so it easily gets greasy looking with product

I got the Shark flex style instead of the Dyson airwrap. It is cheaper--about $300 with various attachments at Costco last I looked. It doubles as a hairdryer. I use it like the Revlon volumizer but there is more control over airflow and the heat setting.

Another rec for the Shark flex style. I partially dry my hair then use the curling wands on damp hair. It lasts for days. Get it at Costco and return it if it doesn't work for you.

Same situation, OP, and I got the Airwrap. It fries my hair a lot less than the Revlon thing did.

Then! I got my hair cut at a salon in Miami while on vacation, and the stylist gave me a modified blow out and it looked SO GOOD. Had wave, bend, body, but smooth. And he suggested I go back to blow drying, but not flat ironing.

In a moment of financial weakness, I bought the Dyson hairdryer. And it has changed my life. It's fast, smooth, works well on lower temperatures, and is easy to style without flattening out all the body. My hair has never looked so good, my cuts last longer, etc. I keep it wavy on vacation, but generally blow dry after washing otherwise.

So my rec before you do something more permanent is to try a fancy hair dryer. I didn't think it would make a difference, but it sure
did.

Interesting. I bought a Dyson hairdryer as well, and I don’t think it’s anything special at all. In fact, I think my cheap drugstore hairdryer dried my hair faster.

All the blowouts seem like a lot of work! Have you tried a little oil (argan from Trader Joe’s works great) and twisting it for air drying?
I let my almost wavy/sometimes frizzy hair air dry to damp, then add a few drops of oil and section into 4 parts. I twist each of these and clip back in a banana clip. By the time I get to work and let it down, it’s smooth and wavy

I find the blowouts less work actually (and also have curly hair). My hair takes forever to air dry so I have to plan ahead to not look like a drowned rat at work. Also it goes crazy when slept on so I have to wash it every single time I need it to not look like a disaster. A blowout I can do whenever convenient and have it last several days. Just my experience!

Buy mousse and big hair rollers. After washing hair, add mousse and big rollers. Roll the hair (doesn’t have to be perfect).

Keep it for a couple of hours just going about your day or sleep in them. You will wake up with very nice manageable curls that look moisturized .

It’s better than air drying and the good news is these sections make it easier to then blow dry in sections if you choose to later
