Gifted and talented letter

Does MCPS do a lot of things that require parents to log into their kids Google accounts? This is the first time I've had to do it for our second grader and I was surprised.

Yes, anytime they send a questionnaire-type doc or interest form. It’s not that often.

In my opinion, 3rd grade MAP scores determined placement in CES or compact math. The other criteria didn't seem to matter much.

At our school only the kids identified as gifted in 2nd grade got to read novels in 3rd grade reading groups. The rest had to read benchmark magazines.

Those benchmark magazines are so awful. It’s insane that they haven’t changed the curriculum yet. Removing benchmark is always just a year away it seems.

I got the letter in the mail today for my second grader. It was also on Parent Vue. I doubt there is much input that I can give that can complete with the testing scores. I took 2 seconds to click on the link and answer "almost always" to every question. Done, check it off my list. My DD already gets enrichment for reading and math.

My 2nd grader gets this letter in the mail today. All 2nd graders at school was supposed to do COGAT test in December, but they canceled it for unknow reason. Have any other 2nd graders in MCPS taken CoGAT test yet? I am wondering if not taking CoGat test or taking CoGAT test matter or not with this GT letter.

And, one thing I want to say that due to medical reason, my kid did a IQ test showing that he/she is kind of gifted. I wonder does that mean anything to school, this GT letter or 3rd grade screening something like that?

A private test won't mean anything for GT determination.

I don't know what my kid's mcps email address password. I don't remember I ever have to login with that email. They say that I have to contact administrator to reset the password. I only have login to parentvue account.

+1 the directions are so confusing. I can't login to compete the questionaire, which doesn't look optional. I guess we failed the first test. Kid's parents are definitely not G&T

Just ask your kid for their Chromebook password. It’s the same.

I asked in another thread and someone said that there were issues with the testing software and they predicted that MCPS will not administer the CogAT this year and will use other data to determine GT designation.

Parent of GT 4th grader. My kid gets accelerated English/reading and compacted math. She was identified Gifted and Talented last year and so I called the program and they told me besides the accelerated courses that she was identified and enrolled in separate from the GT process, the designation doesn’t do anything besides allow a parent to advocates for their child when/if the time comes.

Can you describe what makes the English/reading accelerated?

Probably enriched literacy curriculum (elc). https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/curriculum/enriched/programs/elc/

Does anyone know how they score it? Do you have to pick "almost always" for almost everything, or is a majority OK?
