UNC Chapel Hill waitlisted

NP If the child is an OOS legacy, she is treated as in-state for admissions purposes. If an OOS legacy cannot get in as a frosh, she is not qualified and will not be likely to make it in as a transfer.

I am the alum, I was admitted from out of state back in the day. My child did not apply to UNC I am simply responding to the original issue.

This is not true. We are in-state and CS is an unbelievably competitive admit. Our friend's DC (high stats, great ECs, had already taken some college level CS courses) was not admitted to UNC but was admitted at an equal/superior program elsewhere. He was plenty qualified; there are just not enough spots.

However, I have no idea if transferring in is possible. I would imagine that's an even harder admit.
My child is waitlisted at UNC-Chapel Hill for CS. Is it a good idea to write a letter indicating continued interest? If yes, what should go in the letter and what else can we submit them to convince?
It’ll do about enough good as pissing in the wind.

per the cds (ignoring in/out of state) you have a 1 in 10 chance of getting off the WL. Whatever you do will probably have no effect on whether you get off. Esp OOS if the above posts are accurate.

Congrats though I guess?

UNC is just near impossible oos.

If they did not request a LOCI, do not send one.

Does anyone have a child on the waitlist who plans to send a LOCI?

Duke Mom? UNC is going to kick your ass this week.

Dream on. Love the delusional aspect of UNC fans -- must be something in the Chapel Hill water.

This post … did not age well. 😁

You again?

Ignore the troll. They don't have to run. They and/or their kid were rejected.

Waitlists especially for CS rarely move. Probably need to treat it like a rejection.

Anyone get off the WL? I have seen a few posts here and on CC + reddit with WL offers. No news here, but still holding out hope.

My child got off the waitlist yesterday, and will be declining the spot.

My child received a sophomore guarantee offer last week. Does anyone know how many waitlisted students are given this option?
Anonymous
I know someone transferring oos from a mid tier slac to UNC. Also know a legacy who was initially rejected outright who transferred as a sophomore from another large southern public. Definitely seems easier than admission as a freshman.

Most colleges are easier to get into as a transfer student!
