Private school? That is unusual. Private schools at least the top ones in DC pride themselves on their tight communities. I know most of thee parents on some level at my kids’ school.

Not in my experience. Especially not if you come in at 7th or 9th when parents become much more peripheral to kids’ social lives. The handful of parents I know at my kid’s new HS were ones that came from the same k-8 and I’d already known for 4+ years. My kid is in theater and I plan to volunteer with the parent org that supports those efforts, so I imagine I’ll get to know a few more, but that’s it.
