Tell me some good-fit colleges for this kid (junior)

Sheesh, what's with the Bucknell boosting? You pop up on almost every thread. It's a fine school, but give it a rest. In this particular case, if you'd actually read OP's post, you'd know it's a terrible fit for their kid.

OP here--thanks so much for the suggestions--I definitely see some good ideas on this list that we hadn't thought of! Much appreciated. (DC has strong and genuine intellectual interests, but is also not super hard-charging and grindy--needs a balanced nerd school that doesn't require a 4.0 to get in.).

Here's a list of the top Geology schools.

(I have a sibling who went to school for geology at one of the schools on the list many years ago.)

It does seem odd to keep suggesting Bucknell. Its profile absolutely does not work for everyone. I went there for undergrad, made great friends, and yes did receive an excellent education and went on to a top 10 law school. BUT, there is a culture of binge drinking, Greek life reigns, and it is out in the middle of no where. I received a substantial scholarship which was important given my family's finances but I would not have chosen it otherwise. Even though Bucknell definitely gives a huge boost for legacy status, my DD will not be applying there bc she would hate the particular culture. Many of the patriot league schools (colgate, lehigh) have a similar culture and there is nothing wrong with it but it is not the right fit for everyone.

Pretty much every school in the US is listed here. It just seems like clickbait.

Mine with same stats got in RD too.

Nope.

PP again, though ED is possible. My kid with same stats was rejected in RD from all of these, but WL at W&M. Remember that the really small schools are filling a lot of the class in ED, need a lot of athletes given their small size, and get kids with great stats in RD who missed their higher up ED shots.

Less than a 1% chance for OP's kid at any of these 4 schools.

-Rigorous courseload, mix of As and Bs, one C
-1470 SAT
-Quirky ECs that demonstrate strong commitment to arts interests.
-Field of study likely history or geology

I think DC needs something nerdy but also a little artsy. Liberal but not ultraliberal. I think Carnegie Mellon would be a great fit in terms of vibe but DC probably doesn't have the stats to get in. Other ideas?

Key: In which course did the student receive a grade of "C" ?

Break out the SAT into math & verbal scores please.

What type of "arts interest" ?

"Field of study like history or geology" ????? Suggests that the student has no preference or direction as the study of history is very different than the study of geology.

OP: I can help if you respond to my questions.

Well there's only 50 in their top 50. That's not every school in the US.
