College Acceptances This Year In MCPS

Anonymous
How many MCPS kids are from “donut hole” families, who don’t bother to apply ED to “top” schools they won’t be able to afford without substantial merit aid? How many Blair/Poolesville magnet kids wind up taking the full ride at College Park because they couldn’t pay for Stanford or MIT?

It’s comparing apples and oranges, and tells you nothing about the actual merits of the students or the schools.

It might be surprising to some, but more and more HS kids are keeping ED acceptance results to themselves out of kindness to their peers. They don’t all need to instantly rush to Instagram to brag. Last year it wasn’t until March/April that I started to see the results for many top students I knew at the HS I teach at.

And to the person who posted the list of all the private school Instagram pages - good grief. Take a chill pill. 🙄

++1. Anyone who wants to see the list can look up the overly active thread in the private school forum or find the IG pages themself. Let’s try and do better by not stalking HS Seniors and their respective HS about college acceptances/decisions while they are in the midst of a stressful time.

The public ones, at least, are unofficial and self-reported. My own kid doesn’t even have an instagram account.

All of them are self-reported but no kid is going to lie about it. Your kid doesn't need an instagram account to have their admit posted.

Kids only post once they've made a final decision to attend. So kids admitted ED often report (but some don't). Kids admitted EA often are happy to get the admission but waiting to see about their RD schools before making an announcement of where they'll attend.

Many MCPS kids can’t afford to apply early. They need to wait to financial aid decisions.

The rich have to believe that their kids are the best-best-best. And that the college you go to will determine everything good or bad about your life trajectory. Or else, all this money, it's for...

W school parents are the same way - please with this nonsense.

My child attends a W school. She also qualifies for some Pell grant. She, and almost all of her friends have already been admitted to some great universities but need to wait for the financial packages to be sent before committing. With the FAFSA delay, I think it will cause most students to delay announcing until they know for sure. However, private parents who are already used to spending 50k a year on school, can feel more confident in making the choice without money being the deciding factor.

Weird that you all are tracking private school matriculations.

Definitely a few if the W school is Wheaton! But, I only know that from kids telling friends. A lot of public school kids aren't posting yet. Not everyone posts on IG, and the schools I know did start these until April in previous years, so even if they have it up now, it may not be on kids' radar. And, some are waiting on RD. It's all good, people.

Wheaton is so far from a W school it isn’t funny.

np.. you are not understanding the moniker.

The W schools mean "wealthy and white (Asian" schools.
