Yes, I mask in the airport and on the plane. Otherwise I catch something while flying, every time.

Just flew last week and about a third of the plane was masked.

Norovirus doesn't cause coughing and isn't airborne so a mask has nothing to do with it. Wash your hands frequently and be careful about who handles your food.

I've successfully avoided getting norovirus from my kid while taking care of her (unmasked). It's avoidable with vigilant hygiene.

Norovirus is airborne and you can be infected if you are round the people who is throwing up and you are next to them.

"Airborne transmission" refers to a virus you can catch by breathing in air with aerosolized droplets. No, norovirus is not airborne.

If you were near someone with norovirus and they threw up, you could get it from droplets getting transferred to your mouth somehow. Sure, wear a mask if you are worried about a droplet flying through the air and landing in your mouth. But if you don't also make sure to wash your hands, wipe down surfaces, and be careful about what you eat, you still might get it. The most common way to get it is to touch something contaminated and then touch your mouth, or to eat contaminated food. A mask is weak defense if you aren't also washing hands frequently and taking extra care with your food.

I don't mask anywhere. I am a teacher, so I am around germs all day long. I've cultivated a pretty good immune system, and I've gotten a flu shot every year for over 20 years.

Coughing at airports has been happening since forever. It's. nothing new.

Not masking.

Do you mask on Metro? I mean, it’s not better to take the train or bus around DC. If you’re not masking here, why would that change at the airport?

NO

Same. And that PP who said 1/3 of the plane was masked. Yeah right. lol. I fly 2x a week and maybe 3 PEOPLE on the flight are wearing masks.

I’m sitting in a swarm of humanity at Heathrow as I type this and no one, and I mean no one, is wearing a mask.

Nope. But I’ll smile at you OP.

I’d say it’s a very sneaky virus. The maskers must be on to how it exactly works.

My kid and husband are nail biters and my kid got a nasty stomach bug on our last trip. I'll probably put them in a mask on our next trip during cold/flu season to keep their hands out of their mouth, and also to protect against airborne stuff. We'll probably all put on masks so they don't complain they're the only ones. Getting sick on vacation is no fun.

Why don’t you try teaching your child better hygiene habits?

(Not saying this is you!! speaking in teh general sense)

And a virtuous DCUM'er would be sitting at LHR wearing her mask, looking down at all the nasty, nasty, germy people, while on her high horse, thinking she is so much better than everyone else by wearing that mask. Yet comes down with COVID a few days later. LOL.

I am coughing up along as we speak. I would fly, but at least I would mask up only because it sounds pretty bad. Even though it’s not Covid I know how these things go. I would try to be a little bit courteous, even though I hate masks.
