It's got to be a PERFECT school for Pre-Med. Just laughing thinking about the CONSTANT sound of sirens from emergency vehicles during our campus tour. Wouldn't expect less from an urban hospital!

I went to Pitt and lived in a dorm next to Presbyterian Hospital and Children's Hospital. We had 24/7 Life Flight helicopters coming in on the side facing the hospitals. It was unbelievable to me how quickly my brain learned to tune them out.

I have family experience with Case. 2 alums plus dad worked there. Also friends who got degrees from Case from specialty grad programs.

I think you can get a good education in any STEM field at CWRU. That is clearly their strength.

Having been to the edge of the campus area many times, I prefer the towns surrounding other campuses at similarly competitive schools. That said, I do like the University Circle area and its museums and musical institutions. Would your child be taking advantage of those?

I would scrutinize the safety report. My manager's college student son was mugged at CWRU at night in the mid-90s (unharmed, wallet surrendered). My dad never had any trouble as an employee for about 10 years. I went to a different urban university in the 1990s, and was careful about where I traveled at night and never had an incident. My husband at same non-CWRU school was threatened but did not surrender his wallet. Bottom line, the area the school is in warrants an informed POV while realizing that stuff happens at most urban schools. If your kid is not conservative about safety and wants to walk around alone drunk at 2 AM (as many college students do), that would give me pause. We actually had a recent h.s. grad from our Midwest school who died due to walking home alone while drunk in cold weather. Perfectly safe rural campus, just fatally immature judgment.

Going off another poster's comments, distance from home/DMV might be an issue. More ability to go home for weekends can be a help if the fit is not perfect or your child just wants to see their nuclear family more often.

My apologies for butting in...last year my son was deferred from from EA and ultimately accepted w/merit during RD. FCPS, CS major, 3.96/4.5, 1560, NMSF. We DID attend an "open house" prior to applying. Good luck!

Thanks, PP!! This is useful know. Keep our fingers crossed!!

OP here - I'll tell you my DD's stats but I don't think it will be of much use in your son's case. I'm reading many parents saying their son got a deferral and list their son's perfect stats.

Like the other poster said - 54% male and 46% female. I'm thinking that is a big part of the reason your son get deferred and my daughter was admitted. And why I'm reading of so many sons being deferred but not many daughters being deferred.

MCPS - 3.96/4.75, 10 AP classes/2 IB classes, Test Optional, attended Open House/two of their regional admissions events here/attended online events/opened emails, good ECs (some ECs that also lined up with their stated Chemistry major. Case seems to like that).

Thanks to the poster who knew the girl who didn't like Case because of the nerdy kids. Good info. My daughter is introverted, not the stereotypical sorority type but also not a video game, nerdy girl either.

Thanks, OP. In my kid's school, almost all kids, boys or girls, got deferrals. Quite shocking !!

Cleveland is underrated as is Case. If Case (or Oberlin or Wooster) checks off some or most of your kid’s boxes, do take the time to visit and tour the campus. You may be pleasantly surprised.

DD got in last year with merit but turned it down. We visited in winter and she was turned off by the cold (the campus is a 25 min walk from some dorms) and the perceived lack of safety. I wasn’t crazy about the outcome-oriented admissions presentation. She wound up at an equally academic school in the south and is very happy.

I thought this was a new post and it gave me a heart attack!

At first, I thought it was a new post too and was surprised kids got their EA decisions this early.

Then I realized I was the OP. We are currently driving DD to the airport for her flight back to Cleveland. She is enjoying Case and we couldn’t imagine a better school for her.

So glad it worked out for your DD! My DS is currently a junior at Case and is receiving a great education there. Beyond classes, though, the access to ample medical shadowing and internship opportunities has been amazing for him.

My son drove back this morning- loves Case and is working in Cleveland this summer.

Do most upperclassmen have their car on campus? My HS junior is interested in CWRU and plans to visit in the Spring.
