I think you can get a good education in any STEM field at CWRU.  That is clearly their strength.

Having been to the edge of the campus area many times, I prefer the towns surrounding other campuses at similarly competitive schools. That said, I do like the University Circle area and its museums and musical institutions.  Would your child be taking advantage of those?

I would scrutinize the safety report.  My manager's college student son was mugged at CWRU at night in the mid-90s (unharmed, wallet surrendered).  My dad never had any trouble as an employee for about 10 years.  I went to a different urban university in the 1990s, and was careful about where I traveled at night and never had an incident.   My husband at same non-CWRU school was threatened but did not surrender his wallet.  Bottom line, the area the school is in warrants an informed POV while realizing that stuff happens at most urban schools. If your kid is not conservative about safety and wants to walk around alone drunk at 2 AM (as many college students do), that would give me pause.  We actually had a recent h.s. grad from our Midwest school who died due to walking home alone while drunk in cold weather. Perfectly safe rural campus, just fatally immature judgment.

Going off another poster's comments, distance from home/DMV might be an issue.  More ability to go home for weekends can be a help if the fit is not perfect or your child just wants to see their nuclear family more often.[/quote]
