| My favorite things with the kids are the science center, the Warhol museum, and the international rooms at the Cathedral of Learning. Fun food options are Pamela's for breakfast and Mad Mex for lunch/dinner. |
| Pittsburgh has thee National Aviary! It is fantastic. You can take in a flight show and hand feed lorikeets. There are several exhibits to walk through where birds are flying overhead or walking at your feet. They even have penguins now. The aviary is indoors so you can enjoy it even in the winter or rainy months. Definitely worth seeing. |

We stayed downtown. You can walk to a lot of places in the city center like the rivers point but we had to uber to the Warhol and Aviary. We also took an uber to Strip District and Lawrenceville for food.

The Gateway Clipper river cruises are fun. Long ago we went on a family cruise that had a magic show.
Your kids are all somewhat old for standard kids entertainment. They might like the submarine tour at the Science Center, the Warhol museum (it's very quirky and has a fun gift shop), the Aviary, and the dinosaur exhibits at the Carnegie the best. I like the Cathedral of Learning Nationality Rooms now but when I was a kid I wasn't as interested in decor and folk art and architecture. If headed to Oakland, there's also a botanical garden called Phipps Conservatory up the street from the Cathedral and the Carnegie. There are also some Colonial-era sites scattered around the Western PA area. If anyone is a history or military buff that might be interesting. Some might be on your way from DC if you drive a back route through rural Maryland. Also in that woodsy area near the PA state border are two Frank Lloyd Wright house museums which might be interesting to some children: Fallingwater and Kentuck Knob. |
