Will the Nats be the next team to flee across the river?

That would require FAA approval. The stadium lights could be problematic for aircraft flying in or out of National.

Spectacular! They can run a streetcar down Columbia Pike while they are at it.

You must be a DC council member.

Nah, I post about crime on this board all the time and hate what’s happened to the city. But worrying about the Nats when there lease isn’t up for 15 years is not as stupid as the idiots who think Baltimore will get and thrive as an NHL city, but in the same zip code.

Given the speed of government, it's already too late for DC. They might be able to squeeze in some resolutions to look at improvements for stadium area, but they won't do anything until last possible second, much like the arena. Bowser is still trying to figure out what to do with RFK. A site DC doesn't even own.

Speculation is what successful VC firms do. That’s just about the right amount of time to acquire enough disassociated parcels and lots around various possible stadium locations to make a tidy profit when the time comes to sell them to other developers. In the meantime you’re still generating income from the tenet businesses.

Frankly I’m shocked anyone here doesn’t understand how VC works.

You are dealing with government employees. Making a profit or even meeting a budget isn't a consideration.

Put them at White Flint!! The Lerners already own the property!

Ha -- I like this idea, but unfortunately there are two problems with it. One, no modern-day sports team owner is going to build a stadium on land they already own, when they could instead get local government to pay for everything for them. And two, more seriously, if the Lerners still own the team when the Nats Park lease is up, they may have been relegated to AA level baseball...

Actually that's not how vc works. Maybe a reit, but I don't know of any vc w/ an exit strategy that long, and aside from that, vc's aren't in the property game.

Not really. Pentagon City Mall isn't in either runway flight path.

I’d be looking at Springfield - just west of the Mixing Bowl in the giant Springfield Plaza parking lot.

Even worse than Potomac Yards in terms of who would actually go to the games.

Personally, now that Angelos is gone, I would just go back to being an O's fan if the Nats were to leave Navy Yard.

Because you'd be trying to make it as difficult as possible for people to get to the stadium?

Np. That site is actually easier to access for a substantial part of the region’s population than PY.

Why would they tear down a jobs and tax revenue generator for a baseball stadium?

Have you been to that mall lately??

Exactly. Change name to Shoplifting Mall.

Something’s got to go in that big space.
