If they made valid points and didn’t hire someone less qualified over your head then treat this as a learning experience.

Yep - this exactly. OP, if you think they saw some potential in you, maybe you can ask for training to fill the gaps that held you back.

I remind myself it's a marathon, not a sprint. A colleague got promoted over me and I was so jealous. Of course, I congratulated him and kept it professional.

He got laid off. I didnt. Of course his severance package is probably better but I guess for now, ill enjoy having a job during the holidays.

I dont like the feedback you received because telling someone to work on their leadership is effing vague. Your mgr should be setting you up for leadership opportunities, including a promotion. No harm in looking externally discreetly
