Kid Got Screwed on GPA

Ha. Yeah. The kid did a school sport so the teachers should fail the kid. Somehow I didn't find that in the DCPS handbook.

I'm OP and what did this kid do that earned the kid this treatment?

I haven't seen any current or former teachers saying that this former teacher did the right thing.

What level of service is a student entitled to in DCPS?

And on one point you only sort of bring up - I think this student is getting more than most students. I think that's a bad sign for everyone. This kid has a lot of friends at school who I am SURE did not get a chance to submit work, redo it for better grades, etc., as has been policy, because they didn't know to self-advocate or have parents/guardians do that for them. I think the situation reflects that more people should've had chances to advocate, not that we should shrug about a teacher who didn't really care about them being able to earn good grades.

Seventh grader whiffed one algebra quiz last quarter, qtrly grade came out at 89.41. No rounding up from that. And maybe that's all it takes to torpedo the kid's dream of attending Walls. One bad quiz grade.

Our guidance counselor said that Walls only looks at the end of 7th grade aggregate grade. Not each term grade. So your child should be unless they do poorly in the other terms.

If you are at a DCPS school your kid can get a B+, 2 As and an A- and still get an A for the year. All that matters is the end of year grade.

1) Did any of the other teachers say that the former teacher did the wrong thing?

2) You asked about the level of service your kid is "entitled" to. This explains it all.

3) Why worry about what other students get to do?

4) Good luck explaining your long-winded story to Walls.
