Flatware

Mikasa Colette. It's not oversized. It's 18/10 (much preferable to 18/0 or 18/8 -- the extra nickel content makes it more durable). I like the weight of it -- not heavy but feels like good quality.

With flatware it's really worthwhile to shop around for the best price. The 45-piece Colette set we bought currently retails for $250 on the Mikasa site but you can find it for less on Amazon, BB&B, Dillards, and eBay.

Robert Welch.

His line is carried by crate and barrel and Williams Sonoma- but you really should check out his website.

The Radford Bright collection is award winning and extensive. Very well balanced.

Oneida is elegant, not oversized or overly heavy, and nearly indestructible.

We use sterling silver. I put it in the dishwasher (except the knives) and it's been fine for 50 years (passed down in family).

We are also looking for new flatware. I'm so fed up with the HUGE spoons. I'm feeding people here, not elephants. Also, I don't need my teenagers to eat from what appear to be serving spoons.

+1 and frequent sales if onr subscribes to them

Rather than spending $2000 on a set of stainless, why not buy a set of Sterling silver used from an auction for around $2500-5000?

Stainless ones lose 90% of their value walking out the door with them. Silver ones keep going up in value. There are some good buys on older century old sets that might be missing a couple pieces.

Another vote for sterling. And also run it through dishwasher

I really miss that store. Screw you, Amazon.

Same here. We've had it for 21 years and I still love the pattern and the weight.

I love my stainless. Perfectly sized/weighted. It has a matte rather than a reflective surface, but it's also available in the traditional "bright" finish.
