Why? |
| How much were they charging? Did families know in advance? |
| We have been playing in MD and paid for a weekend pass, $10 each. Eh, it’s NBD to us. It’s seemed pretty well run, games all starting and ending on time. Good level of competition. This is our first time at a futsal tournament and it’s quite fun. |
I think it's pretty common for the facility to charge a fee, and if I remember correctly is true of the regionals in Pennsylvania and definitely true at the Atlantic City tournament. And, as posted the fee clearly didn't come from Alexandria since they weren't charging it at the other sites. |
| Thought the tournament was very well run at the Maryland facility. Games were on time, plenty of refs, athletic trainers on site. Was nice to have so many games happening at the same time under one roof. Saw the US Futsal national coach there with his women's team. |
| Maybe better on the boys side, but the girls' brackets were small and competition very lopsided. That's probably a DC soccer landscape problem and not an Alexandria problem |
Hmmmm.... how many Alexandria teams won at their own tournament (and how many were top bracket winners)? |
I counted 8 boys winners out of the 48 boys Alexandria teams entered, almost exclusively in the older groups where they made up 50% of most age groups |
2 for 32 on girls side |

My kids play futsal with Alexandria and overall it is a great program. I think the Captial Cup futsal tournament was very well-run; the facilities were much better than I recall from previous years, mainly due to the additional court space at Athletic Republic.
However, I understand the frustration with the entrance fee nonsense. I have the same gripe about every one of these tournaments. The tournament organizers should just build this charge into the cost of team participation in the tournament -- parents would still end up paying for it, of course, but it would feel less grubby to just tack on an additional $200 per team charge (or whatever) than to nickel-and-dime parents at the front door of the tournament. It really rubs people the wrong way. Again, not an Alexandria-specific issue, because every major futsal tournament seems to do the same thing -- but there are alternatives. |
Alexandria has very strong futsal teams. Sorry your team didn't win. |
| My kid played. She got 4 free tickets on ASA, we didnt pay for them. When we checked in they marked our names off her list of 4 available and that was that. 4 free per kid. Seems fair to me. What am I missing? |
They were only free for Alexandria kids. Not the other teams that paid $500 per squad to enter the tournament. |
These indoor facilities always charge a spectator fee for tournaments. Same thing for the Spooky Nook and Atlantic City (expensive $$) futsal tournaments. ASA just prepaid the spectator fee, but I'm sure that was cooked into the player tuition. ASA is also practicing there this winter, so maybe they got a volume discount or something I dunno! |
Spooky nook did not charge us a spectator fee this past February but there was a parking fee. |
