The manufacturer of the Simplicity crib went out of business. |
| I think that any crib, recalled or not, is not safe after 10 years. I would trash it. |
| Trash it. |

The crib should have something on it that gives the manufacturer's name and the model number. You can then search to find out if your crib is still considered safe.
You can't automatically say that just because something is old that it's not safe. Also, just because some cribs with drop sides had issues does not mean that all cribs with drop sides are unsafe. You need to research the crib that you have to find out what the best option is. |

Does it convert into a full size bed?
Ours does. So we're keeping it. If yours converts, too, and you still want to get rid of it, try selling it as a bed. |
| The whole drop side debate is crazy. If we didn't allow manufacturers to produce so many infant items in other countries and import them to USA, we would have never been in this situation in the first place. Cribs have been made with drops sides for decades from quality craftsmen like Childcraft, Basset and Simmons. Then we get cheap junk at WalMart selling for 100.00 and people go crazy and buy them up like they are going out of style. You totally get what you pay for. It is not illeagal to sell a recalled crib, just call your local police station. People are getting way upset about this whole thing. |
| I think part of the confusion is that there are plenty of drop-side cribs that have NOT been recalled. I also have a Sorelle (no recall) and would be happy to give it away later this year when we transition our second child to a bed... but not sure if anyone would want it because of the recalls. |
| try a women's shelter, i don't know if they would take it but it might be worth a try. Something is better than nothing. Let me get this straight...they're not going to sell drop side cribs anymore? Or did I misread that? I'm not sure I would buy a crib that DIDN'T have a drop side! |
| We recently tried to donate our thirteen year old Pali drop side crib. The thrift store would not take any cribs due to the recall. We tried the local kids second hand store. They said they would take it if we got the retrofit and brought it in. Now I am reading that there is no retrofit for Pali cribs. I'm not sure what to do now. |
| Craigslist. There are people who don't have $400 to drop on a crib and would like to buy a used one for $75. Our nation is way too disposable! |
| Recall? I thought there was a ban and that drop-side cribs were no longer being sold. That's different from a recall. Can someone clarify? That's what I've been reading. |
|
The ban is not just drop side cribs, it applies to ALL cribs manufactured before June 28, 2011.

If you live in the city, you can curbcycle it. In my neighborhood, it would be gone in 20 minutes.
I saw a lady pushing a snap-and-go frame-- just the frame, no seat in it-- with a young toddler (18 months, max) and a newborn lying together in the basket part. Some people can't afford to be picky. |
| Since this post has had a lot of confusion and misinformation, please refer to the following Consumer Product Safety Commission link regarding cribs, the new regulation and the list of cribs that have been explicitly recalled: http://www.cpsc.gov/info/cribs/index.html [ to the earlier poster -- FDA does not regulate cribs.] |
| Arlington FreeCycle does not allow cribs (or carseats). |
