This. I bought a dress I saw Kelly Ripa wearing on Live! last December and it was so cheap looking and poorly constructed. They must have altered it heavily for her to wear. I’m not investing in alterations on what is essentially a sweat-shop quality dress. Never again. |
I don't love Farm Rio, but I have a collab track suit with Adidas that is fire! |
If I were 20+ years older I’d wear this little old lady outfit in a heartbeat:

Sometimes you want to channel Carmen Miranda. That's the appeal! |
Cute, but again 61% polyester?! What's up with the cheap fabric? |
This. Ordered 3 dresses from them, returned them all. Fabric was uncomfortable and fit was...for someone who is not slim and petite (me). |
On the right body, it looks amazing

What are the odds of seeing this in DC? Miami, sure, but DC, never in a million years. |
I am not particularly thin but still take an XS the Farm Rio pieces I've tried on. I have no idea how a woman this thin can wear it. Maybe this dress was tailored? She does look great. |
I have several pieces from Farm Rio and they look fabulous on. All of my pieces are very heavy cotton. And yes, do you see this in DC, maybe not your community, but there are plenty of black and brown women in DC. Farm Rio is from Brazil, why would they design for a limited aesthetic? |
Fun and different. Almost all the dresses I am taking on a beach trip are farm rio. I have some pieces I can wear here, depending on the event. |
PP here. I AM brown, have lived in NW DC for 30 years, and would be surprised to see this in DC aside from a themed summer party. |
I love the Farm Rio aesthetic -- loud, colorful, exuberant. Not for everyone but it's my thing.
However, their quality declined rapidly as they expanded. They were sort of a niche thing for a couple years and then Anthropologie picked them up. The first few things they sold through Anthro were still original quality and I was initially excited to be able to buy stuff from the line so conveniently. But then it's clear they ramped up their production (and likely changed factories and standards) because the quality went off a cliff and I wouldn't buy anything from them now. But stuff I bought from their website circa 2019 or so? Amazing, they stay in heavy rotation and hold up great. I love that I can combine an FR piece with neutrals and take an otherwise pretty boring outfit somewhere really fun with almost no effort. I also love that the FR dresses I have require virtually no accessorization -- they are prefect vacation dresses because all you need is a pair of sandals and some hoop earrings and you look like a million bucks. |
You are not from the part of DC where people dress this way. This aesthetic would look perfectly at home at an even at the Atlas Performing Arts center during Fringe Fest, or at Union Market, or at Culture House or any of dozens of venues around the city where the crowd is mostly black and brown and the vibe is multi-cultural and vibrant. I don't spend much time in upper NW but when I do go, it's notable how much more neutral and conservatively people dress. |
Completely agree. The fabric just doesn’t seem to justify the price. I did get these during Black Friday sale: https://www.net-a-porter.com/en-us/shop/product/farm-rio/clothing/midi-dresses/asymmetric-one-sleeve-fringed-devore-velvet-dress/1647597316942389 https://www.farmrio.com/products/multicolor-tapestry-garden-v-neck-mini-dress?_pos=46&_sid=3cc8b4cc8&_ss=r https://www.farmrio.com/products/black-braided-midi-sweater-dress?_pos=27&_sid=37991212c&_ss=r Not sure if I’m going to keep them all.
