He’s not dependent being at the “perfect” school. If he gets into a reach, great. But there’s no guarantee his outcomes would be any better compared to State U. Research suggests it doesn’t matter either way - it’s all about the kid and their approach to life.

You didn't feel any stress before he got accepted?
Why exactly are you stressed? Are you afraid your kid won't get accepted anywhere?

I mean it’s a kind sentiment by OP but I agree with this. What exactly are you all stressed about?

Whether they can brag that their kid got into a T20 school.

Ours is opposite - the stress is whether our kid will get in anywhere as she does not have a strong academic record. She did get an acceptance last week, so at least we know she won't get all noes and can actually go away next year. But I'm just anxious to see if she will have any other choices.
I think this is understandable. But honestly, in this case, I'd plan for community college and then apply to schools. If kid gets in somewhere that's icing on the cake.

The focus on DCUM about getting into a T20 is crazy.

Yes, but nowhere in the original post or responses did anyone specify T20. Congrats to those of you who don't worry. Some of us do stress about where our child will spend four years, and about how much it will cost, and about whether it's the right fit, or whether they will thrive there. We also try to steel ourselves if our kids are really disappointed, trying to plan in advance the best way to support them. These things can be stressful even if you don't care about a single school, or what level school it is. It is not the mark of crazy competitive parenting to feel some stress around this. Nor is it a mark of superior (or inferior) parenting not to be worried at all.

It's always amusing how even the most anodyne, supportive sentiment on this forum can metastasize into debate so quickly.

In the spirit of OP's post, for everyone feeling stress and anxiety, hang in there! For those who aren't, keep it up!

DS got into his safeties over the weekend (UMW and Radford) so we have collectively breathed a sigh of relief.

I’m really grateful we heard a yes from the safety school because the others are starting to look less likely based on some midterm grades.

My 4.7/4.0, 1540 SAT DC has been waiting to hear from a not selective (>90%), rolling school. This school is a popular safety and those we know who applied got in within a week. It's been over 2 months for DC. Thought this was a safety but ialso happens to be where DC wants to go, so didn't apply to many others. And yes, DC has impressive ECs, recs, and all that. We are now very stressed.

This would stress me out too. Do they release admits based on which major you applied for? Someone just told me that about Delaware - their daughter heard before Thanksgiving and we’re over here still waiting.

Your kid probably has an arrest he is hiding from you. AOs are doing basic background checks on kids before offering admission. I know two kids who got rejected in scenarios like yours.

Is the application complete? We had a rolling safety that was a little disorganized, once I called and they connected test scores, transcript, etc to the application, we got an acceptance within a couple days.

Good lord.

Schools are imperfect bureaucracies, and delays like this happens all the time. I know because I work at a public university, albeit not in admissions. Our university offers automatic admission to students who have certain grades without discretion. My kid applied EA a couple months ago and still hasn't heard back, even though his admission is literally guaranteed. While I totally understand the stress and anxiety, I wouldn't make any sweeping assumptions. If you're really concerned, you might have your DC contact admissions to make sure everything is okay with his/her application.

actually, that was what we have done. She still has to get through this year and graduate, so...

We always knew community college was an option (and if she can't get through this year, still might be). She very much wants to go away to school, though, and we were really not sure if all hope was lost or not.

We did think we would have more than the one answer by now (a yes which we 100% celebrated, BTW! Tears of joy and relief) Radford wants her first quarter grades before making a decision AND she still has to audition for the performing art program she wants, 2 schools haven't sent portal info at all even though she sent her application over a month ago now, and her top choice (a small school in MA) let us know that they misinformed us when we visited in Sept and that she WOULD have to audition for the performing art program. The top choice was a HUGE let down as we thought she was already artistically accepted and that she would have the academic answer by Thanksgiving - now we're waiting until at least March.

She pressed send on Friday night to ODU and a MI state school with a 2.25 GPA auto admit. She still has 2 more to go - one is for some bizarre reason NOT a common app school and the other requires extra writing.

I'm not the OP, but this process has been stressful - honestly, so has trying to get her to THIS point as a parent. I am so happy that at least one school said yes and that she doesn't feel like a huge failure like this area makes her feel so often.

And yes, the financial piece causes stress, and this year with the FAFSA delay, it's crazy.

I’m not stressed in the sense that I can’t function. I am just really excited and want my kid to get into the school because she’s really excited about. We both know that this acceptance/rejection that will be revealed next week does not define her.

It’s like when I was pregnant. We didn’t find out the gender. It was just really exciting leading up to the birth. Of course that reveal is great all around. But the excitement is the same.

It’s stressful. We don’t know where she will get in, where she will choose to go, or how much it will cost.

Plus she is stressed and that makes life harder at home.

Are you sure the application isn’t missing something. I know for Pitt, you have to fill out something separate after you apply that is basics,ly a self-reported transcript. They won’t look at application until it’s completed.
