It’s not. There’s a zillion brands of chocolate and many are very good. Even my local Walmart has a huge variety beyond just Hershey’s. Y’all aren’t trying very hard. |
Cheap ingredients make American chocolate taste gross. If you’ve never tried genuinely good chocolate, you have nothing to compare it to. Even when my dd was a toddler, she wouldn’t touch American chocolate. To think, a small child would eat most sweet things. |
If you can manage to step outside the trailer park, you'll find most American grocery stores have a wide variety of foods including all kinds of imported chocolates. Now if all you can afford is Kitkats, that's a sad commentary on yourself. I enjoy delicious gourmet American chocolate all the time (and have lived in Europe, so I know chocolate) |
Well isn’t that the point OP is making? In Europe the gas station/grocery chocolate is inexpensive and still amazing. Here to get the same type of chocolate you have to go to a specialty store and spend triple the price. Instead of spitting out nasty comments, perhaps actually understand what the thread is about. |
Not sure what you are smoking. Hershey's is the best. There are some Swiss milk chocolates that are just as good but that is about it. |
It sucks. Awful. Euro anything is trash. |
No, OP is claiming that all American chocolate is bad when it's just not. Also, there's crappy European chocolate and it's a fictional dream many Americans have that "everything is so much better in Europe". You dont have to spend triple the price- food in America is very affordable. |
It’s true that American candy bars have crappy quality chocolate, especially nowadays. BUT…we do have access to so much chocolate, the PPs are right! …If you branch out and step away from Hersheys, you can easily get good stuff. The options are endless.

+1. There are 100s of choices of top-end (hint: don't buy milk chocolate) chocolate on Amazon. That's where i buy it for the chocolate lovers in my life. They usually prefer dark with a high cocoa count |
I'm loving the feisty poster. It's true! Dollar general and trailer parks. Made my morning. |
Because the American food industry supports big business, not the end user.
Palm oil. Blech. |
Euro-trash thread. DCUM never disappoints on topics like this |
Surprised no one has come out to call you privileged, elitist and out of touch for this comment! |
Well yes, Hershey's sucks, probably because it's so sugary...but you can get Lindt at Giant here, just like you can in France, Belgium, Germany etc...and of course you can get nicer stuff as well too, it's just that you can't walk down the street, like you can in Brussels and get really nice stuff. |
Ha! My kid was like yours. Introduced him to chocolate with very dark chocolate and he loved it...years later, when he had Herscheys from his Halloween loot, he made the funniest "WTH is this??" Face... |
