These "partnerships" (Union/VDA/NVA/Brave/etc) are marketing gimmicks, nothing more.
A shiny new powerpoint to show parents of top players that *this* is the next big thing that will get our kids into college. They are Lucy. We are Charlie Brown. |
| Goodbye Onions. |
You think all of those girls played for McLean at U13? Oh honey… |
How so? |
The age they start there doesn't matter. They know how to get girls recruited. |
The benefits of ECNL. |
| Following |
McLean had ECNL before partnering with SYC and renaming their ECNL program "VA Union." |
|
What is the supposed rumor? That they are losing ECNL or that the Union (McLean and SYC) partnership is ending?
I don’t think I see either happening. |
The partnership is ending. |
Why? The partnership makes no sense. |
|
It doesn't matter. Better players on the girls' side will continue to go to McLean at U13 and above because of their history of getting girls to college soccer. The original deal benefitted SYC because it gave the illusion of a special ECNL pathway, which helped attract younger girls into SYC's programs.

| Is Bethesda ECNL? |
| SYC merging with Baltimore Union instead. |
Yes |
